I have finished the body so far. I used the brass rivets bit I am not completely satisfied with the result. The resin rivets did not work for me. Jumped in every direction and disappeared in the holes. Decals didn't arrive so far. :-( Next step will be to make a lighter copy of the shell. Best regards, Thomas

There is not visible progress on the model car. Meanwhile I would like to show you some of these very rare images from a technical report about this car I found recently in the german "Motorrundschau" from 1967. Best regards, Thomas

Meanwhile I have designed and 3D printed a chassis for the BMW. I'm still not sure about the appropriate wheels for this car. I'd like to use aluminium rims in the front and the rear. The wheels in the front with a flat bed are 6mm wide but have a visible inner part for the screw. Not that nice. The rear ones are 11mm wide which is a bit too much. Any help would be appreciated. Best regards, Thomas

I prefer the RS wheels as they have a recessed back like the old BWA wheels. The Slot Car Corner are flat on the rear, I usually machine a recess into them to improve the appearance.

Unfortunately there is only slow progress with my car for the proxy. Time is running. Currently I am working on the chassis which will be home-printed with ABS. Both axes will be fixed in the chassis itself. Current status of the soldering work around the axles and the wheels Now this must be fixed somehow to the chassis. Bes regards, Thomas

Hi Thomas
The BMW is looking very good and I think you are making very good progress - your way ahead of my entry!
Best Regards

Excellent work Thomas. The body looks beautiful and the suspension assemblies are little jewels. Did you create some kind of jig to hold all the bits in place while soldering them together? 3D computer aided design and printing seems to be redefining the term "scratch building" for several entries in this proxy. From steel and brass to ones and zeroes -- it's a brave new world for our hobby.

The proxy event is coming closer and like most probably also for others time is running out to finish the cars for the proxy. I have to say that I have underestimated the work and time which is needed to build up nice and decent runner for the proxy race. It is like in a labyrinth. Too many choices how to proceed and many of them are dead ends. I made about 20 versions of the 3D printed chassis and become (more) gray hair when I tried to develop the visible parts of the drive line and chassis. Besides this the environment is not very foregiving when such an important event is coming up. The job, the family, the house and the garden needs some attraction as well. Finally I decided to hurry up and to try and finalize all the necessary parts just in single attempt without repetition. No more photos... Mold for the windscreen has been made. Mirrors produced with the dremel instead of a lathe, driver and head from Immense Miniatures and decals printed on a laser printer. Intakes of this four cylinder (!) machine have been mounted on a 3D printed part as well. Finally I tried to finish the wheels on the RSM and destroyed one of the Ortmann tyres. No time left. I have to use different ones. This is the current status. Car will be hopefully good enough to look at it from a certain distance :-) I have to ship the car this week because of the upcoming holidays. Bes regards, Thomas

Finally I managed to ship the car before summer holiday. Unfortunately nearly untested and with some technical and optical issues.
Some final images from the BMW Lola. It is already on the trip over the pond.
Best regards, Thomas
