Very nice build, must get around to building my 25.Have done a 32b for the Tasman Proxy. I have been using these little motors in club cars for years, all geared around 8 : 23 or 8 :24. With no problems.. I tried HO gears but ended up with Slot It Crown and the 8 pinion as the best option. If you can still find them the Scalex 8 t FF pinion gives a nice smooth mesh.

Gentlemen
Thank you all for your comments and the interesting discussion on small motors and gears. It is really useful to get first hand discussion on this sort of thing, much appreciated. I will be looking at trying some of your suggestions re pinions / gears etc with the smaller 030 motors.
Regards Richard

eh, Phil?
I have seen you say that you had failures with the 030 motors and dismiss them.
For 1.5mm bore 8 tooth pinions I use BWA....you can still get them. They do work well with a Slotit crownwheel.

Yes John we had a lot of failures with these motors. Personally I have only had two failures. One guy in out club had 5 failures, then changed to a FF050 I know Stubbo had 3 failures in one Tasman Series. But they are very cheap and when you get a reliable one they are good. My cars with them have been running for about 6 years and still going well, but they are different to drive with poor braking compared to the FF050. I am sure Chris must have cars running for years with these motors.. Scale auto do a nylon pinion, SRP and Mr Slot Car do brass, MR Slot Car also do a steel. All in 8 T 1.5 bore.

The two that Failed on me did so within the first few laps, so probably a factory fault, did not bother pulling them apart. I think the one club guy thst had lots of trouble was sanding tyres on the car, would not admit it though. I think the other failures were due to trying to run 9 /23.
