As you may have seen from my post on the SEFAC thread I'm having a bit of carving fest at the moment. I've been looking ahead to next year's Policar GP at Gaydon and thinking about something unusual for the event (assuming its for 70's cars) and chose the Tecno E731 and a Japanese one off, the Kojima KE007).
The E731 was commissioned for the Goral design studio by Chris Amon in 1973 as an alternative to the Tecno PA123 (see my thread from a few years ago). It never raced but did practice a couple of times - notably for the British GP. It still exists and has appeared at the Monaco historic grand prix, so there are plenty of photographs which turned out to be good thing as there is no drawing/blueprint to be found. Consequently I had to draw my own which was fairly straightforward as its a simple shape and there are dimensions on the Ultimatecarpage web site.
The Kojima was originally built for the 1976 season and it first appeared at the Japanese GP at Fuji - the infamous wet race won by Mario Andretti and where James Hunt secured his World Championship after Niki Lauda withdrew because of the conditions. The Kojima, driven by Masahiro Hasemi performed well and finished in 11th place despite tire problems - at one stage being fourth fastest in practice and recording the fastest lap in the race - although this was later corrected in favour of Jacques Lafitte. Like the Tecno the Kojima is alive and well and has appeared at the Goodwood Festival of speed. I did find a drawing of the car although its not quite correct but was easily modified. There are plenty of photographs to be found.
The photographs below show the carvings which are almost ready for moulding and casting. Note neither car has engine/gerabox detail as they will both have the Policar motor pod.
Best Regards
David
