This latest build has been on and off my bench for over two years but I will finish it one day.... The 1974 championship winning McLaren of Emerson Fittipaldi. Classic bodyshell and the high airbox carving for the conversion. Removal of the original airbox and side pod radiator ducts. Front and rear aerofoils made up, airbox attached and side pods rebuilt. Partially painted and decalled. David

Lovely David, glad to see people working in this time period - what are you going to put under it in terms of motor? I was thinking to do an 'invited' proxy for these 1970's cars like 'those US guys' are doing for the '60's.... Hope you'll be up for that when I finally find the time!

Hi David,
I am building this Mclaren at the moment and the question is, how to "hide" the crown gear, as it will be just behind the motor ?
Any idea ?
Best regards !

Hi David,
Another question : how did you do the lateral panels of the body and the lower part of them ? Can you show a photo of the body upside down ?
Best regards !
André Acker.

Hi David,
Sorry for repeating the question about the crown gear ! You already had advised me on this, I did not remember it ! I will do a vacform gearbox to hide the crown gear.
Anyway, can you explain how you did the lateral panels ?
Best regards !
André Acker.

Andi The McLaren hasn't progressed since first posting. The motor will no doubt be a slimline but the spec, 30,000rpm or a lower one will depend what the car ends up being used for. No doubt there will be a proxy one day for these cars.
Andre The lower body panels are simple, you just extend the side of the monocoque with thin plastic sheet to the rear bulkhead and then add the thin sheet to the floor of the radiator side pod.

Yes a Proxy is VERY much on my mind David, and you'll be the first on the list for a car and a 'round', at Southend....
Do push this one on, its the only one of Charlie's I don't have!
