The final race of the GPdG was staged this morning. Congratulations to Taffy on a second victory and Jay for his silver medal finish. My thanks to all of the participants. I'm sorry that Tony's car gave up the ghost during he qualifying. I think the Pioneer motor was just too much for the gears. A special thanks to Ken for being a such a wonderful race and home host. We had a great time here. Ken will provide commentary later. I also want to thank my son David who accompanied me on this trip to Fort Wayne and put up with my foibles in the best of humor even when I filled the air with a few choice words in the final heat of the race... (Ken might or might not explain that one). Since I still haven't figured out how to attach an excel spreadsheet in this forum, I've pasted a picture of the race results. Note that Nigel is listed twice on the spreadsheet.. the final line should read Tony... (they both had Lotus 49s and #5!) Results for the overall series will be tabulated after David and I return to Chicago. More to follow:

First of all thank you Mark for being brave enough to let me play with the cars you were charged with, I was honored to be a host for this series. Thanks for coming all the way to Fort Wayne from Montana to attend the last race. I was pleased to be able to share my track and my home with you and Dave Markson. Well gents I have had a bumper crop of GP cars race on my track this weekend with the VRRA races being run on Saturday morning and the GPdeG qualifying being run Saturday Night and finishing with the race this morning. I must apologize to you all that my mind was not quite on task for the cars running in the white lane. I had gotten a message during the lane change from my oldest brother that his wife who was rushed to the hospital late the night before was diagnosed with an untreatable liver condition and there was no hope for her recovery. The white lane is a bit slower and has some trickier turns through the esse section. The white lane also did not have as much rubber on it as the white lane did. Here are my impressions of the cars after running them both here and at Matt's Car number 1 Charles. A very nicely built big car that had good speed and brakes but gave up a bunch with some lousy rear tires. The car had poor grip on both Carrera tracks. A good guide stop is very important since your car and many others would swing 70 degrees or so to the slot and get stuck. Car number 5 Tony. Your car has a very handcrafted old school look. It had a chance to build up some RPM's from the Pioneer motor on Matt's long Monza track but it was bogged down here with the combo of VERY soft rear tires and a noticeable amount of magnetic downforce form the Pioneer motor. It is a shame that the gears gave out during qualifying. Car number 5 Nigel. I liked the look of your car and it had a great combo of motor and gear ratio. The downfall was that your rear tires would spin, move sideways on the rear wheels and do all kinds of wierd things while trying to move the car forward. Your car turns better left than right and my track is mostly right turns. Your car is another candidate for a guide stop. Car number 5 Mark Well there was no creativity to be found in the numbering of your car. LOL Mark's car has a modified 1UP Cooper chassis that had great rear grip, good speed and decent brakes BUT his front wheel attachment method left something to be desired. The front wheels would go all over the place and jack up the front of the car at the most inoprotune moment and cause a deslot. Look real close at the photo of the car on the starting line and you can see the alignment issue. The jacking of the car out of the slot reared it's ugly head going through the esses on the white lane. You could see and hear his frustration of seeing his lead from the red lane disappearing in every off I had on the white lane. Number 7 Taffy. . . Good god man what a car built on a Penelope Pitlane chassis. I see that you stiffened it up like I do mine and that made a part of the difference on why your car was so superior on both my track and Matt's. Here it was a breath taking ride with lap times in the same range a Slot It car runs. On this track it had the perfect balance of speed, power, handling and brakes but it could catch you out easily if you applied the massive power too early exiting the corners. I good guide stop is the only thing I can see that your car needs and may be why it scored so poorly at Jay's track. Car number 12 Phil. Well I got to drive three of your cars this weekend and out of the bunch this one was the runt of the liter. It just was short on all items needed to keep up with the big boys namely; motor/speed, track and GRIP. I did the best I could. Car number 12 Jay IMHO I was disappointed in the way Jay's car was turned out. It looked a bit thrown together and was missing important pieces like a steering wheel. The rear tires even as soft as they were never got great grip and in a left turn the car would step out the back end or maybe more like snap out the back end. Car number no rocket number 36 Al. Well Al your car had great speed, good grip, great midrange throttle response, amazing handling but NO BRAKES! ! ! I could never hit full throttle on your car anywhere on the track but it did negotiate the esses very well even with that incredible amount of potential top speed. Can I borrow that motor for next years land speed record run? Well guys it was a blast and let it be known that the top ten 1.5 liter cars would have all finished in between Mark and Nigel. Looking forward to next year and the amazing builds that you guys created and maybe a car from Chris? Cheers Ken

I think it was the 2nd or 3rd car I ever built and did it about 6 years ago. Building a new routed track to host the 1st race on left precious little time for a new build. I had time to swap the motor and rear tires and that was it. The funny thing about the grip is the tires came out of the the same pack as Mark's tires and I tried both sets. He wound up with the better pair. I appreciate the strong run and I don't guess second is too bad with a 6 year old car. I'll strive for a better car next year.
Congratulations to Taffy on a beautiful car and a well deserved proxy series win. I look forward to seeing what masterpiece you present us with next year and hopefully we have a full field. So let's get building!
Congratulations to Mark for third. If not for your front wheel it looks like 2nd could have been yours. Otherwise a great driving car. Well done.
Jay

Thanks to everyone who was involved with making this series happen. Of course I was over the moon for my car to win the first race, but to be placed so highly in each race was fantastic too. Congratulations to Taffy, Jay and Mark for their efforts. Regards Nigel

I know this will be somewhat difficult to read, but I coudln't take a decent picture of the spreadsheet... the screen on my son's iMac was just too bright!
Taffy is our well deserved champion with 3 wins in four events including the Concours. Jay takes silver with two seconds, a third and a fifith place finish while I snuck onto the podium just edging out Nigel who won the first race at Grand Loop. Charles was a co Concours champion with Taffy; the Ferraris were truly gorgeous cars.
We have Pre Wing resin kits for the winners.. the kits are:
1966 Brabham BT19 1967 Brabham BT24 1967 Honda RA 300 1962 Cooper T60
The winners may pick their prize in this order:
Taffy 1st Place Jay 2nd Place Mark 3rd Place Charles Concours Winner
I'll be returning to Montana tomorrow and will have your cars in the mail very soon afterwards.
Thank you all for your participation. I hope you enjoyed the events.

Confused on the scoring - "add'l sections" added to lap totals - (as if each section = 1 lap) - was that the intent? Have I missed something or is this modern banking arithmetic? (Sorry, Mark - couldn't resist!)

Confused on the scoring - "add'l sections" added to lap totals - (as if each section = 1 lap) - was that the intent? Have I missed something or is this modern banking arithmetic? (Sorry, Mark - couldn't resist!) Al Ken has numbered his track sections, 45 in all. The partial laps are saved till the end with the section count for each lane added together, then divide by 45 to get the added lap(s) and fraction of a lap. Any count greater than 45 is a complete lap added and then the fraction of a lap in tenths. Mine is the same except I have 100 sections, so there is no need to divide by the section overall count and I end up with partials to hundreds of a lap. Matt

Wow, what a result! You can see a very lucky first-time-proxy-race-participant waving from the other side of the ocean! First of all, I would like to congratulate all competitors, but particularly the two other guys on podium, Jay and Mark! Then, I have to thank all, who were in charge of organizing, preparing and running this event. Very good job, thank you! I can say, my first proxy race was an exciting experience and a great pleasure for me. Like Jay did, I will start to build a new routed track at home during the wintertime. I hope, beside of this there will be time to build a new proxy-racer in case, that I would be invited again Thank you Matt, for your explanation about the additional sections. I had the same question, but didnĀ“t find the answer. Great prices! Thank you to the guys of Pre-Wing! I am very glad to have the first choice, but in fact, it is the most difficult. Well, I choose the Brabham BT 19! Very best regards, Taffy

Since Taffy has selected the BT19, I would love the BT24. Thanks to Mark for rounding up a great selection of prizes Jay

HI Everyone Congrats to the podium drivers and from one Ferrari to another... a special congrats to Taffy!!!
