Hi everyone , im new as you have guessed my name is Charles , me and my daughter are avid f1 fans , we collect mainly slot f1 cars , i am interested in making some balsa models of some vintage cars , and as i can already see there are a lot of great model makers on here , any tips would be appreciated ,,,one question ,where do you get your plans , or do you guess the size of the cars speak soon regard charles (chaz)

Hello Charles I agree with what Chris and Mark have said and I use both those links for plans as well as having most of the 1960s "Model Cars" magazine that published those drawings. It is also worth trying to buy these on ebay. You can never have enough reference books so it's worth getting these on subjects that interest you and of course Google is useful for photographs. As Chris said some of the old plans aren't too accurate so get to know your subject well so you can spot and correct errors in the drawings. For a simple car you don't need drawings as long as you know the key measurements of track and wheelbase and have enough good photos to work from. This picture of a Lotus 12 was the basis for a balsa shell I did, it was near enough a square on side elevation which I scaled to 1/32 knowing the wheelbase measurement and then drew this out onto the balsa wood. The rest of the shaping I did by eye using various photographs. Balsa is cheap and I would suggest you just have a go and learn as you go along. David
