Although there a few touch ups still to do (thanks to the revelations of my sadistic Macro lens) the car is essentially finished.
It has been built for the 2013 GPdM, and I hope I can get it finished and parcelled off in time for the first race (next weekend).
When searching through my stash of candidates for the 68 GP season, the only eligible shell was this MRRC Matra. While it captures the look of the Matra quite well, it is a tad on the chunky side, and the engine/trans. area is positively massive. With no time to order up a different option, I tried to make it as passable as possible.
The rear end was sanded/filed/remodelled, and lots of bits had to be made or scrounged from the parts bin.
As well, there are elements which are far from accurate, but considering my late start (all my fault), had to be incorporated...2 glaring errors...
1/ The car generally ran with the mirrors attached to the bodywork not the screen.....the MRRC screen comes with cutouts to accept their standard GP mirrors, and as I did not have time to make a new one, (or more correctly have one made) parts bin mirrors were glued over the holes.......from a functional point it is actually good, as they are much stronger that way...sorry marshals!!
2/The tires used are Cox Cheetah/Ford GT repros (they fit the 13" Dart wheels perfectly, and look great), but have Goodyear markings.....not that pleasing to the Dunlop brass....(I hope the concours judges are not reading this!!).
Anyway, at the end of the day the car does look quite nice overall, if still a bit on the chunky side.
PS A quick thanks to Michael at Indycals for producing roundels with the number 6.
Cheers

The chassis is a fairly straightforward flexiboard design, and testing revealed no cause for alarm.
