Stu, I bought the Mashimas (at Chris' suggestion) because they are small and fit in the narrower 1.5L cars with low decks. I know next to nothing about armatures, so I also followed Chris' advice when I purchased the 'stock' armatures from Wizzard.. they were relatively inexpensive and more than enough motor for these little cars. (in my opinion). I don't think I'll be spending $40 or $50 on custom Wizzard armatures. I wouldn't know what to do with that rocket power. Here's a link to an article that may answer some of your questions. There are many more pieces on the art & science of motor rewinding available on the internet. Most of them are Greek to me, (figuratively). Now, IF ONLY, the Solarbotics motor had decent magnets, better brushes, good brakes and reliability. Why it would be perfect! And probably cost a bit more then $2 to $3. slotcarbuilder.webs.com/page5.htmThe Mashima's magnets have some magnetic down force which is noticeable with a brass and wire scratch built chassis. As I may have mentioned, the Ferrari 158 has a Beardog Mk III with a spring steel chassis and complete lower 'pan' which completely dissipates the effect of the down force.

I've been lucky with Solarbotics motors. I think the ones around 24000rpm are sweet as, unfortunately, they aren't most racers cup of tea. They are cheap but you get what you pay for. Cheap enough to buy 10 ( can buy 30 for the same postage cost to Aussie) and might get 2 or 3 sweet ones out of out of 10. Cost can be a deception sometimes. I wont be spending that sort of money either Mark, at this stage, on a custom rewind, not because of the price, but, (1) I wouldnt know which one to go for and (2) I dont think these rocket rewinds would suit where I am at with slots at the moment,so that would be a waste really. Not discounting them at all, merely got an eye out for a seed that just might fruit the right crop for something, so to speak. I'm just curious about the mechanics, if thats the right word, of the effect different size wire winds and single winds compared to double cause. I have a few of Jeromes pre war bodies that are very narrow and these motors might be just the trick but not the hot winds. But the Lotus 72 with big rubber and grunt might be more accommodating for such a winding, with suitable gearing, considering most home tracks. First off though, my intention is to apply them to the era of cars such as the one in starring in this thread. Thanks for the link.
