Saw this thread thought I should say hello.
My world of slots started with my dad's scalextric set but the cars never stayed on the track so when I was 12 I used my paper run money to buy an AFX Jackie Stewart Pit Stop Challenge. Over a few years I added more cars but then slots went away - while surfboards and college and marriage and kids all came along. I then started and continue to play with model trains, mostly in 0N30 (1/48th scale) but I have N, HO and G scale trains in my collection.
I am not quite sure just how it happened, I think it was my brother's fault but I rediscovered slot cars about 6 years ago. I couldn't get over the detail and the quality of the cars compared to what I remembered. With in a few months my brother and I had about 10 cars each and we had made the first of 5 MDF routed tracks. I even took down my train track to build a slot car track.
At the moment I am hoping to start my trains up again as I made room in the new slot track layout for a train track as well.
I am only a pseudo scratch builder - but I do enjoy reading about the great projects of people on this board and others and I have a go at making some resin kits. I am planning on making a brass chassis one day - perhaps once I get the tracks sorted. In the mean time I will keep plugging away at the kits and at restoring some of the older slot cars I have a Yardley BRM and a Brabham that I am working on as well as an older monogram Sharknose Ferrari - (mostly by tuning them up and repainting them)
cheers
David
