I wonder if it is only 'Motor Sport' who will supply such stuff.
About a year back I bought the DVD of all the magazines from 1924-1949, the earlier years being the original 'Brooklands Gazette' which become 'Motor Sport'.
The pages incidentally are all scans, not modern electronic reproductions. An excellent buy.
I wonder if Motor Sport still have all their photo archives? At one time they advertised them, including those not actually used in the magazine.
'The Motor' and 'Autocar' might also have such archives, but may not be interested. It is only since the new energy has been injected into Motor Sport that their bias has been towards all racing rather than just contemporary stuff.
Peter.

All the photographs from MotorSport magazine over the years are available through their LAT library.
I have all the original magazines from the late 1950s through to the early 1980s and you can't beat researching a project with them, of course while you are doing this you go off at all sorts of wonderful tangents and read about an obscure race or car.
Although you can't beat the real thing I also have the 1924-49, 1950-59, 1960-69, 1970-79 and 1980-89 digital archive of MotorSport magazine which are extremely useful and handy when you don't want to wade through piles of the actual magazine.
Another publication that is slowly transferring to digital is the excellent Autocourse annual which for many years was the definitive season review for grand prix racing.

David I would love to get the digital versions of some historic racing seasons..(I'm assuming the prices will be reasonable!) I did a quick check on eBay to see what a used copy of Autocourse (in this case 1962), might cost, and it's way outside my price point. www.amazon.com/Autocourse-1962/dp/B0016WL8WK/ref=sr_1_74?ie=UTF8&qid=1391786162&sr=8-74&keywords=autocourse
