My goodness. It's almost September 20. The big day for Round two will be here soon.
What we know will happen:
1) Nigel's Honda will NOT lose a wheel.
2) Taffy's gears will stay perfectly aligned.
3) Bryan and his team will have fun.
Everything else may be up for grabs!
Good luck to all.

Well it's race day now, I hope your predictions come true Mark.
I ran the practice/qualifying session yesterday and here are the results. Sorry it's not a nice neat table.
All the cars were driven by me and given 10 laps (just over a minute) on the middle lane and the fastest lap recorded.
No Owner Car Lap Pos.
1 Taffy Matra 7.02 1 26 Bryan King BRM 7.17 2 23 Phil Kalbfell Shannon 7.29 3 91 Tony Condon Lotus 49b 7.35 4 6 Mark Huber Ferrari 312 7.39 5 31 David Lawson Cooper-BRM 7.41 6 2 Dave Wisdom McLaren 7.51 7 8 Thomas Menke Brabham BT24 7.61 8 3 John Prince BRM 7.64 9 15 Chris Wright Eagle Climax 7.65 10 21 Ric Woods Eagle 7.68 11 20 Stewart Harding Ferrari 312 7.73 12 19 David Mitcham Cooper-Maserati 7.74 13 17 Mel Ault Brabham BT20 7.79 14 7 Charles Lawrence Cooper-Maserati 7.82 15 12 Alan Stubbings/Stu Loader Brabham BT29 7.87 16 5 Nigel McKeane Honda RA273 7.91 17 9 Ross Trowman Lotus 49b 8.14 18 14 Matt Ryder Honda RA300 8.20 19 16 Marc Abbott Lotus 49 8.51 20
All the cars were very easy and satisfying to drive and none were a handful which made it all very enjoyable. But I'll post some driving impressions later with the main report.
All the crown gears stayed where they should be and no wheels fell off. The only problem was a broken guide on Marc Abbott's Lotus. Luckily it happened at the end of his qualifying run. It looks like the guide post has snapped but I'm hoping it's just the screw that's come undone - it's difficult to tell. I'll have a closer look later and hopefully we'll be able to fix it before the racing starts this afternoon.
Cheers
Bryan

Thank you for the practice times Bryan.
My ageing Cooper-BRM did moderately well at Pendles last year and I see it "qualified" fairly well yesterday recording a time a fraction quicker than in 2013.
This looks like it will be a very close race with a bunch of cars hard to separate, I wonder who will finish second to Taffy.....

Good to see the Shannon putting in a good time, great to be ahead of Stewart and Stubbo as they out qualified me easily in the VRAA.

Thanks for posting the practice times Bryan. Unsurprising to see Taffy's Matra heading the field; its quite a machine. The rest of the grid is incredibly close though. The race will be fascinating!
Hopefully Bruce will improve from languishing in 7th qualifying position to a higher placing in the race.
All the best for the event. Dave

The suspense is over Taffy. Here are the results for round 2 on the Slotfire track at Pendle Slot Racing. The cars were run twice on each lane in two minute heats by 2 sets of 3 drivers giving a total of 12 minutes for each car. There are one or two surprise results including my BRM finishing in front of Taffy's Matra - very pleased with that! Mark's Ferrari seemed to like the Slotfire track and did far better than at Dave's track although the exact opposite seems to be true of Stewart's Ferrari. I'll post a full report and some photos very soon. Cheers Bryan

Another great finish by the Shannon, thanks to all involved with this race and congratulations to Taffy,Bryan and Tony. It would be good if Bryan and Tony supplied specs for Their cars so us guys down the field could compare cars.

Thank you Brian for running this round of the series, a special thank you to Pendle Slot Racing for hosting it and not forgetting thanks to the drivers.
My Cooper-BRM finished about where I expected judging by the qualifying session and the race was almost as close as the practice times suggested it would be.
Let's hope that the remaining races are as close.

Here's part 2 of the report from round 2 at Pendle Slot Racing. Drivers for the day were Nic Hirst, Paul Cash, Pete Crane, Matt Blades and myself from the Pendle Slot Racing Club and special guest John Prince. We had a fantastic days racing and it was wonderful to race such lovely detailed cars side by side on the track. The cars in each heat were very closely matched which resulted in some very close racing and there were plenty of exciting wheel to wheel battles going on that were a joy to see. A few of John's photos from the day. The Slotfire track received a bit of a make over by Nic with some neatly painted grassy areas which has improved the visual appeal a great deal. Far better than the dull uniform grey of the olden days. And as a bonus it's much easier to see where the corners are. Concours voting was made very tricky this year by the big step up in the quality of the detailing and scratch building ingenuity. It was an almost impossible task to separate the top cars from each other. We gave it our best shot though. All the cars in Qualifying order before the start of the race. Heats under way. Myself, Nic at race control, Paul Cash, Matt Blades and Pete Crane. And John Prince behind the camera. Despite the closeness of the racing and the fact that the track has a chicane there were very few incidents thanks to the sensibleness of the drivers who behaved themselves (most of the time). It's just a shame they don't race like that on club nights. Having said that there were some very minor casualties to report. Charles's Cooper and Mel's Brabham both lost their screens and Tony's Lotus lost a couple of detail parts after a tangle with the wall. All the parts are safely stored away. And the body of Mark's Ferrari fell off. Luckily it was just the body post which had come out of it's socket in the shell. It managed to stay loosely in place for the rest of the heats and didn't affect the performance. A blob of glue should fix it for the next round. Also we fixed the guide on Marc's Lotus before the race began. The screw had simply fallen out and was easily put back. It seemed OK for the race and didn't give any problems. And finally a shot of the podium with my BRM, Taffy's Matra and Tony's Lotus. Congratulations to Taffy and Tony and well done to all the entrants for building such a wonderful set of slot cars that were a joy to race. Thanks to all the drivers for giving up their free time to help and to John for the photos. And thanks to Sean at Pendle Slot Racing for the use of the club's facilities. That's all for now, I'll post some driving impressions tomorrow. Cheers Bryan

Having said that there were some very minor casualties to report. .....(insert report about a windscreen or two) (and in other news) And the body of Mark's Ferrari fell off. That's all for now, I'll post some driving impressions tomorrow. Cheers Bryan I don't know if it's good news or bad news that my car seems to run better when the blinkn' body falls off! Next time, I'm going to have to find some real life rivets to attach these things.. I seem to have problems with epoxy or superglue.. (and I even thought I had a supporting brace on that post). Sigh...
