Let's hope this mini heatwave, by autumn standards continues as it will help the track grip in Pete's wonderful but chilly barn. The weather also means I will get there with the top down on my pretend Elan....(MX5).
We are also having an "Unsung Heroes" support race for British sports cars of the 1960s, I'm bringing my Airfix kit bodied road going Austin Healey Sprite and E type Jaguar to race.

I was able to qualify the cars today, albeit a bit later than intended. I went out in my Lotus last night and about 4 miles from home the engine started misfiring quite badly and was only running on 2 cylinders. I crawled to the nearest safe spot but wasn't recovered for another 4 hours! I didn't get to bed until gone midnight and then had a look at the car this morning with my dad so qualifying didn't take place until after lunch. In case you're interested it looks like an ignition problem so hopefully not too serious. Anyway here are the results from qualifying. Each car completed 10 flying laps on the same lane with best lap recorded. It's very tight from positions 8th to 13th! Pos

I must say the standard of car in every aspect has improved since last year. They are faster and better finished. You often hear a lot of people come back from slot meetings where there is a concours field and they say 'the standard of cars get better every year'. I never usually agree with this and often think there is a lot of rubbish on show, so I never say that. BUT I have to say this time that this really is a top notch field and some of the cars are outstanding, well done. The race will take place tomorrow as planned on the same day as the full size US GP which I hadn't realised until today. So 1/32 US GP 1967/68 meets 1/1 US 2014 GP! Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete
Many thanks for posting the qualifying times. It looks very close and something of a shake up to the previous race order of things - I wonder if that's a hang over from the tyre issues some of the cars suffered last time out. Personally I'm delighted Jochen Rindt finally woke up and moved up the field from what seemed to be a permanent twelfth place. I hope it lasts for the race. Enjoy yourself tomorrow!
Best Regards
David

Thanks for posting the qualifying times Pete. Poor Bruce McLaren seems to be slipping down the order somewhat, but despite that, it looks like its going to be another fascinating battle behind the top 3. I hope you and David have a thoroughly enjoyable day and I look forward to seeing the results.
Glad to hear the Elan is hopefully not too unwell. At least it didn't happen to you en route to Spa.

Blimey Jo Siffert has qualified mid-field. This circuit obviously is in keeping with his driving style Can't wait for the race results... can my Lotus climb up the field just a tad? Don't forget to take some pictures in hi res – we'll need them for the final report in Slot Car Magazine please. Marc

Congratulations to Bryan for winning, David and Stewart for making the podium. **** Also Taffy has broken the lap record at Cuckoo Pines, it was previously held by Chris's Matra from last years race. I suppose it's suitable that a late 60's F1 car holds the record, nothing later than 1970 really races at Cuckoo so well done Taffy. Finally, congratulations to David M for having the most realistic car that graced the track today, it looked so convincing going round. Scale appearance never looked so good! Thanks, Pete

My Ferrari on the podium? What a great way to end the series! My thanks to all involved in the Cuckoo Pines round of this splendid proxy race and congrats to Bryan and David L for their fine finish. I do hope we will see some pictures in the coming days.

Hi Stewart,
Your Ferrari had great pace and was geared well for Cuckoo Pines, the punchy motor and good grip also helped!
David took some pictures, he wasn't that happy with them but he has very high standards so they'll be good no doubt!
Thanks,
Pete

Thank you, Pete, for these quick results! I was sitting here clicking the refresh-button every 30 minutes.... 2000 laps? Wow, that must have been a grest racing day.... Thank you once more for all your efforts and to David and you for driving our cars. Congratulations to Bryan, David and Stewart for this splendid finish! Well done, boys! The "unusual" position of the Matra makes the outcome of this series a very close thing... that´s racing and that is quite good! I´m more than curious, what happened to the "green monster" on lane 1. I rarely have expected anything more than this racereport.

I won't say too much until Pete writes his race report but I must say that I totally agree with Pete's comment earlier that the standard of build, finish and realism has dramatically improved since last year, this is a truly impressive group of cars.
I did take some photographs but space around the track is very limited which restricts the sort of composition I would normally attempt so please don't expect the standard set by Dave Wisdom and John Prince.
I'm sorry to let my ego creep in here but I must point out that Lane 1, which I drove throughout is the slower outer lane with slippery "grass" borders (as Pete says this is realistic for a 1960s track).
I left home at 8.30am and got home at 6.00 pm with an aching back and knees from driving slot cars all day, I'm getting too old for this hobby...
I knew Taffy would query his position.... His car in lane 1 was a real handful on the long sweeping downhill bend and the right hander after the bridge, on both these corners the car snapped out of line at any speed - this cost the car loads of time but I did not de-slot the car at all during the heat.

To quote Rog and Dave -O from "Men in Blazers": "Wow, Wow.. Wowwwww" Thank you Pete and David for your hard work and prompt reporting... 2,000 + laps? Whoa. I do hope you enjoyed racing our little cars at Cuckoo Pines, and I want to emphasize how much I appreciate all you did in the pentultimate event of the season* Congratulations to Bryan on his second win. Bryan and Taffy each had two victories and three podiums in our series. And congratulations to David Lawson and Stewart Harding whose cars have performed very well over the series and each made the podium in this final race to take Silver and Bronze. We will await pictures and driving impressions which will tell you more about today's event. In the meantime, With Bryan's second victory and Taffy dropping off the podium for the first time in the series, we have a very close race for the overall championship: *Still to be tallied the Concours scoring. So hold your breath folks, the podium placements (and other standings will be determined after the Concours scores are tallied. Wow, Wow, and Wowwwww. A footnote. Stu Loader pointed out I had made some errors in tallying some of the points down the rankings in races 1, 2 & 3. I believe I have fixed those now and if you check back you will see the corrections. My apologies. A further footnote. I am tempted to mandate that all races next year will be held on the Pendle's Slotfire Track, but I suppose that might be a bit self serving.

Congratulations to Bryan, David and Stewart. Many thanks to Pete and David for all that driving, it must have been a very tiring day but it sounds as though you had a good time.
Thank you Pete for your very kind remarks about my car; I'm looking forward to seeing it again although I'm sort of sad the series has come to an end. A great event and everyone involved in organising it deserves a very big thank you from all the competitors.
Best Regards

Here are some random pictures from yesterday. I have to repeat myself that it is very difficult to get a camera into the right position which is a shame because Pete's track is so nice and these don't do it full justice.
