Mark,
Many thanks for posting the pictures, they are great and self explanatory.
It is an incredible miniature job... I know it`s very time consuming, but rewarding, for sure!
Kind regards, Dan.

Matt, after looking through this thread again to appreciate how much work went in to it, I noted that there was no reference to the painting of the shell. Most notably the colour used. Next to my representation of a Honda your colour looked more correct, so may I ask what colour did you use or mix to complete the terrific Honda model. Thanks Nigel

Nigel, I used Tamiya TS-7 Racing White, Tamiya TS-85 Bright Mica Red, and Mr. Color Semi-Gloss top coat. I think that TS-7 Racing White is the color that Tamiya recommends for the Honda white racing color.
I don't know which color Tamiya recommends for the red accents on the Hondas. Tamiya has a few different reds that look suitable. I took a chance on TS-85 Bright Mica Red, and was pleased with the result.
Of course, which one of our cars is the correct color may be open for debate. I've always thought that Honda's racing color was an off-white, and in most of the photos I found online, it looks off-white to my eye. There are some photos in which the Honda F1 cars look to be closer to a pure white, but I still think the color is off-white. In a recent Goodwood meeting in which Surtees drove the RA300, his period style helmet was noticeably whiter than the car.
Even if a Honda F1 car should be a pure white, I wouldn't paint it that color. Every slot car I have that is pure white has yellowed over time. I hope that the off-white will mask any yellowing. And not least of all, I prefer the off-white shade over a pure white finish.
Matt
