Before I post anything at all about our entries firstly I'd like to say collectivevly to Chris Wright, Mark Huber, David Mitcham, Dave Wisdom, Matt Ryder and Taffy Ulrich thanks for posting up details of your outstanding builds. They are all quite magnificant and we are certainly grateful to be a part of this event. I would also say that coming from a country that was founded largley by convicts stealing some of your good ideas might well be on the cards. Stu and I are both doing a Brabham BT19. Given Sir Jacks recent passing I hope we can do it proud. We started with the FPF shell but unfortunately it just did look right. I cast a copy and did a bit of cutting etc to get the elements in the right position. Looking a bit better. A bit of filler and some sanding and it starts to look right. A shot of paint to protect the resin a bit and now it is off to Stu to start fitting up the chassis etc before I get the body pieces back to do any final adjustments prior to doing the final mouldings and castings. Whilst this is happening I have been trying to replicate the exhausts. What a cow of a job . It is not working out that well, but we will keep at it. I actually know the guy that made the exhausts on the real car. Maybe he could help. Now he might be a bit old though.

A fitting tribute.

I have to echo your sentiments Stubbo regarding the quality of the cars already posted, I personally feel a little out of my depth, but I am very grateful to be included in such a fine competition. I am working on my effort and should have something to show in future. Your effort by the way, is also looking very good from the beginning. Regards Nigel

I agree that replicating exhausts is a cow of a job--I had a devil of a time attempting to craft something that resembled the Ferrari exhausts. While the Brabham just has 8 pipes;), I think it's much trickier with all the bends and loops. You'll have to ask Chris how much plastic rod he went through making these: (I think he might own stock in Evergreen!)

Hi Alan
I love the BT19 and its simple effectiveness, engineering at its best - I saw it race several times in the UK in 1966 at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park. Jack was something of a hero to me as a 16 year old teenager. I alway felt he was unlucky not to be World Champion again in 1970 - I saw him again at Brands in the BT33 when he should have won. I'm really looking forward to seeing your car's progress. I don't think there is any such thing as an easy exhaust system to model in 1/32. My Cooper ones look simple but are far from being so!
Best Regards
David

Hi Alan!
Playing with prejudice :-))). Please don´t speak about theft!
I´m very glad to share my own experiences here, because on the other hand this forum gives so much of inspiration to me. For example: without all these pictures of the piano-wire-chassis I´d never had the courage to build my own one...
Looking forward to seeing more of your Brabham!
Best regards,

Hi Taffy,
I've been absent from here for a while.
Things have been a bit slow, the cold weather doesn't help but I think we have a few day left to get it done. I'll get some pics happening soon.

Here is a bit of an update. Looks like we are going to be cutting it fine with the deadline. From where we were previously we started again with the body. It will now be done in 4 parts. Making some engine bits Working on the screen. Finally with some colour on the body parts. Having got this far I have found lots of issues with the body top and there are several ways to improve it but there is no time now. Maybe I will start on next years car next week.!!!!!

At least you don't have to build the chassis as well with that being built OFF SITE! I started my car two years ago and it still needs to be detailed before I can mail it?

No worries for you guys. As everyone knows those 8 cylinder cars are 33% less complicated to complete than the 12 cylinder racers. No wonder we only have one 16 cylinder entry! Looking good!
