Here are some of my photographs from the 1978 British Grand Prix.
Even though racing was becoming extremely commercial by then and the purists were starting to feel that grand prix racing was losing some of its magic, the cars were superbly innovative and varied in design and there was such a quality group of drivers that it was a great time to see them up close at a circuit like Brands Hatch.
Mario Andretti - Lotus 79
Patrick Depailler - Tyrrell 008
Emerson Fittipaldi - Copersucar F5A
James Hunt - McLaren M26
Alan Jones - Williams FW06
Rupert Keegan - Surtees TS20
Jacques Laffite - Ligier JS7/9
Niki Lauda - Brabham Fan Car (I took this picture at the Goodyear tyre test before the Grand Prix)
Niki Lauda and John Watson - Brabham BT46
Riccardo Patrese - Arrows FA1
Ronnie Peterson - Lotus 78
Didier Pironi - Tyrrell 008
Hector Rebaque - Lotus 78
Carlos Reutemann - Ferrari 312T3
Keke Rosberg - ATS HS1
Jody Scheckter - Wolf WR5
Rolf Stommelen - Arrows FA1
Hans-Joachim Stuck - Shadow DN9
Gilles Villeneuve - Ferrari 312T3
John Watson - Brabham BT46

Lovely photos David, good memories. Much better access to everything those days, although restrictions were creeping in year by year. Thanks Nigel

Some superb, evocative 'photos...Today's ugly roller skates with their lawn-mower engines really are not in the same class. If I was asked to pick my favourite from the '78 season,I'd have to think long and hard........Thanks for posting them. TED......
And Brands is a much better circuit than Siverstone............
