Mark,
Apart from the staggeringly tragic death toll you compiled, I am also amazed at the pitiful finishing record of the 15 cars in that race. How times have changed, happily on both counts.

Looking good Mark, it looks as if you got a good wet coat of red applied. Who's driving this Ferrari?

By the helmet i'd say Chris Amon. I've painted a few of those over the years....

Mark
Good progress with the Brabham.
This picture is from 1966 and ignore the colour but it does show the shape of the engine cover on the off side of the car, this bulge was on all 4-cylinder Coventry Climax engined BT11s.
I hope this helps. David

Great work Mark on the Ferrari and Brabham. I continue to be amazed by your output! I often think that the more obscure drivers and cars have more interesting histories and stories to tell than some of the well known "stars".
Best Regards

Looks really good Mark. I believe Bob chose Peekaboo Blue as he had a quantity left over from painting his road going Mini . Those springs/shocks on the front we discussed off-line look good. Best Regards David

I also have that book and am constantly referring to it as it is a total history of all the cars. It isn't comprehensively illustrated but there are enough to start with as long as you have other reference books and magazines.

The Doug Nye book was supposed to be delivered today per my email alert from UPS, but the brown van did not show up. Well I will have to wait until tomorrow. In the meantime. I don't usually start work on a driver figure until later in the process, but I was intrigued by the Siffert Swiss "Cross and Bars " helmet decals that came in the Prewing kit. However, because the lines or bars are straight, they require some melding to get a proper fit against the curve of the helmet. Unfortunately, this decal has not reacted kindly to Micro Sol (the "red", and, yes I was very ginger in the application of the Micro Sol. I got a bend (good) , but I also got a shrink and a kink (bad). I have a backup decal, and I'll have to think a bit about what to do differently on the second try. Discretion is the better part of valor. I already know that Micro Set (the "blue") won't bend this decal--I tested that the first time and it had no effect, while the red is too strong. I suspect that a shot of acrylic clear spray, even if I mist it, would be problematic. I will paint the helmet peak black, but first I have to ponder the decal dilemma. Mark dilute the Micro Sol with water, it'll do the same job with less drama, give it several applications pat decal flat with cotton rag. Dilute 50/50 with water, and do a test first.

Sorry to go off topic but I went to Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago and Jo Siffert's son was racing in the Classic Formula Ford race, it was nice to see the familiar helmet colours again although Philippe Siffert has a white band around the bottom of the helmet rather than an exact copy.
To create a stripe that fits a helmet I cover the area with Tamiya masking tape and draw the stripe, remove the tape and flatten it out and you are left with the correct curvature. Then cut out some white decal paper to this shape and apply. David

You're positively galloping through the field Mark. I'll have some heads-shots to post for your approval later this afternoon (my time). Just got to wait for some batteries to charge.

I have almost completed the Rob Walker Racing Cooper Maserati T81. Two questions: 1) Can anyone identify the badge or sponsor logo on the prototype to the front and below the mirror? and, 2) Do any of you have as many problems with dust specks when you take pictures of your cars??? Darn it.. I just noticed that I need to reposition and lower the roll bar... (a whole lot of good the real one would have done Seppi had the prototype flipped over). Mark could it be a Maserati Logo, I know some other T-81's had that logo there. It only appears to be on the left hand side.

Hi Mark I think it may be a BP logo as the shape in your photo doesn't look quite right for the Maserati badge some of the cars used to display. It may have been on both sides of the car as there's an image I found on Google of the right hand side where it seems to be present - admittedly this may be a painting or touched up photo. If you search on Cooper Maserati Siffert it should come up. www.research-racing.de/JoSiffert4 I also saw it on a photo of a works car driven by Richard Attwood. Best Regards David
