I built this car as my entry for the VRAA Proxy Race this Fall/Winter. The shell had been waiting patiently in my "future projects" drawer for a number of years and the Proxy gave me good motivation to finally get it built. The Dave Jones fiberglass-resin shell is very well made. Very little to be done but cut out the axle and cockpit openings. I cut and soldered together a basic chassis with 2 mm of motor/axle offset. No fancy "flex" chassis for me. I'm still struggling to make a decent solder joint! The original Porsche design is rather more complex. I soldered the lower front suspension but glued the lower rear for fear that I would undo the rear axle mount. I spray painted it black in imitation of the full scale version. The rear upper A-arms were bent and glued together. Upper suspension was bonded to the body shell. Driver Dan installed on motor and windscreen glued to body. A couple of interesting research photos of rarely seen views of the 804... The rear end with the engine cover removed: The unique, unequal-length, 4-pipe exhaust system: And finally, after many tribulations, the finished car: The Porsche on track for the first race of the VRAA 2014-15 season:

A very nice build Stewart and I hope it performs as well as it looks.

PS There's nothing wrong with your soldering.
