Hi Chris, Was this the car that Smokey Yunick tried the wing... Yunick changed open wheel racing forever when he mounted a wing on Jim Rathmann's Simoniz Vista Special Watson Roadster. The wing, designed to increase downforce, allowed Rathmann to reach cornering speeds never before seen at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway but created so much drag that it actually caused the car to record slower lap times. The United States Automobile Club (USAC) immediately banned the use of wings but they soon began to appear on cars competing in Can-Am and Formula One and by the early 1970s USAC once again allowed their use. He also participated in drag racing.

Close Chris...........The car I built is the 1961 Jim Rathman Simoniz "Golden Anniversary" Special, #4.
The 1962 car (also driven by Rathman), the "Simoniz Vista Special", #44, (your pic.) is the one that Smokey stuck the wing on.
The confusion is my fault......I titled the post 1962, instead of the correct 1961...my bad!
I have now re titled the post to "1961" Cheers Chris Walker

That's a nice model Chris, I'm glad the Indy cars were included. I look forward to the other pictures.
Peter.
