Has anyone had any experience with Mr. Slot Car brass pinion gears? I'm thinking of using one of their 7t brass pinions on my 2015 GPd car.
My reason for asking is a concern I have regarding the root thickness of the gear. Compared with pinions from other manufacturers, the root of the Mr. Slot Car pinion is much thinner. For example, the root on a BWA pinion is about 1mm thick, whereas the root on the Mr. Slot Car root is less than 0.5mm. It looks so thin compared with other pinions, that at first, I wondered if it was a manufacturing defect.

Hello Aurora, I have installed many Mr. Slotcar 4.5mm pinions (6,7,8 tooth) and have never had a problem. Yes, compared to the typical plastic car pinion they do have a thinner "root", but, installed with precision (a quality press) you will not have a problem.
Consider that many high end pinions (for "wing"/Eurosport motors) have a thinner root than even the Mr.Slotcar pinions, and that these motors extremely rarely have any pinion issues.
While I generally solder all my pinions, the Mr. Slotcar pinions are designed for "press fit" and I have installed several this way for our shops customers, with no issues.
Install your pinion squarely, and you will be fine
Cheers Chris Walker
PS the 7t 4.5mm Mr. Slotcar pinion is true pitch, and is therefore the smoothest in the 4.5mm size.

Chris, thanks for your sharing your experience, that's the information I needed. I'll go ahead and solder on the Mr. Slot Car pinion. Now, whether I can install it squarely is another matter...
Cheers, Matt
