Just starting to put the bits together.
There are already threads for this car detailing the history. The Dutch GP was a wet race so i'll be needing to get some big grooves in the centre of the tyres!
The plans are straight from the Blueprints site. Does anyone know if they are accurate? I'd hate to build something and be told its wrong.....

Well, that gearbox is just what the doctor ordered. Very slick!

So having completed by Brabham BT42 I thought i'd better make a start on this given my build rate! I decided to go for the construction method.... As it allows a nice tidy space internally. Decided to get the side profile first. Then the plan form. And finally the cigar shape and some carving out of the cockpit. Its quite weak which worries me! The delicacy of the nose required me to put some CA glue on to harden it. That's all today.....

Lovely work Andi, very delicate touch in some areas. It captures the look perfectly, will you use it for a master or just race it when complete? Cheers Nigel

Hi Nigel I think this is just a one off. I've never cast anything and i'm not going to start with this build.... Here a little progress:

Its taken me a lot of time to get this going again. I seem to have made acomdey of errors on this one but am slowly pulling through. Shut lines done and finally enough filer and paint to cover the wood grain!!! The underside has been cut out to accept the guide so now onto the chassis.

Looks very good Andi. I wish I could keep everything as clean and neat during my builds! It was very good to meet you at Gaydon and I was mightily impressed by your work on the Policar stand. It could revolutionise scratch building as we know it - why not post your quick Hesketh build on here?
Best Regards
David

Its not really scratching..... I'll pop something in the manufacturers bit. I had a lot of fun and met a surprising number of people who spent a lot of time chatting about my cars. Lots of fun!! Cheers Andi

I've started to resurrect this build.
Given this series has stalled Chris maybe you would consider moving this thread into the main builds section rather than in the proxy section?
I will then continue to add to it hoping a future series might get its use!
Cheers Andi

So a little progress has been made.... The chassis has finally come square. I have previously resisted using jigs but met my match on this one. So I ordered one and have taken about 9 months to test it out! I am a complete convert. Now I'm having the age old problems with tyres and wheels. The rears seem OK but the fronts are clearly 13" where 15" are needed. Do these front Scaley tyres stretch up and if so what rims should I put them on? I've been collecting photos tonight. There is a long way to go.... Cheers Andi

Hi Andi You could also try the CB Design wheels. There's quite a range of sizes. I used their insert wheels on the BRM P83 H16. I got them from Slot Car Corner in Canada (there is an American SCC outlet too but I think stuff from the Canadian version works out a bit cheaper and is less prone to customs interference). www.slotcarcorner.ca/categories/Wheels/ . They also have Paul Gage tyres amongst others. Best Regards David

They certainly seem to have some lovely wheels there David but what on earth do the numbers relate to and what tyres do they fit?
I've never understood how tyre and wheels manufacturers sell anything with the complete lack of information.....
If they had a nice cross section drawing and told me what tyres they were compatible with i mght part with some cash!
Help! Andi
