Hi forum members. My name is Chris Young and I have just registered so this is new to me. I don't have a track but do have a router !! I also have a few old bits of Scalextric and Airfix cars which have gathered dust for well over forty years. I find scratch building fascinating and hope to progress in that direction before too long. The 1930/40 cars really draw me in, and some of the examples on the forum are masterpieces. Looking forward to learning more, Chris.

Hi Chris, welcome aboard. Will we be seeing a new wood track soon?
If you have dusty Scalxtric and Airfix cars, I hope you dig them out and get them running. Restoring or modifying those old cars is a fun way to get into the swing of scratch building.
Matt

Thanks for the message Matt.
I am in progress clearing a section of my garage wall. My aim is a drop down table which will hinge to the wall for storage.
Yes, I agree regarding the old cars, they are a restoration job in waiting. When I have some progress I will post the results.

Hi Chris, welcome to the group. I am relatively new as well, with what sounds like a similar experience to yours. I raced a little back in the day (mid 1960s) and nothing since. Semi retirement has allowed a bit more free time and a little disposable income to pursue old interests. I have had a great time building up some of the fine kits and bodies available from companies such Peneolope Pitlane and George Turner. I also have a particular interest in the early pre~war 1930s cars for some reason. It is really interesting to explore their history and then model the classic racers from the past. The degree of modeling talent in this group is a bit intimidating, but I've already learned and progressed just looking at what others are doing. I look forward to seeing some of your projects! Regards, Howard

A belated welcome Chris.
There's a lot of folk come back to the hobby after many years and find the hobby much more enjoyable, especially if they wish to scratch build cars. Abilities develop over the years and I'm sure most 'mature' members will feel that they are much more patient than in years gone past.
This is a good time for someone interested in the early stuff as there is more 1930's and 1940's stuff around than ever before, and it will get even better. Do ask before buying however, as there is also some absolute rubbish around which would do your enthusiasm no end of damage and is not representative of most cars/bodies available.
Peter.
