I've always been very impressed by this Lotus 18 by Peter Godden, it was 3rd in the 1965 ECRA Concours D'Elegance, quite a big deal back in the day, and would be a winner even today fifty one years later. My apologies to "TOM WYSOM'S WONDERFUL BLOG SLOTTY SALAD" this is where I stole the scans from.

Lovely to read this old account again. Proving that you don't need a lot of fancy tools. But I would love to know what silver solder paste is and where to get it! It's amazing to think that in those golden days this beautiful model only got a third place. In today's concours it would run away with the first prize.
Cheers, Martin

Great stuff, thanks for posting Chris. Reading that could be taken as an account of many of the builds on this forum. It puts a positive spin on the old adage, The more things change, the more they stay the same. In this age of polymers, composites, and 3-D printing - brass, steel, and solder still have their uses.
Wonder where this car is now?

Oh you couldn't 3D print this! And moulded celluloid body parts? When did we all last see celluloid? It had such a wonderfully chemical smell and yes, balsa cement really did glue it! Oh, I can smell it now!

Trouble is....I can only think of the 18 and one other car which has so much frame showing and they aren't to be seen in the one class.

Well this is in the same class, Stirlings car ran in the 1.5 F-1 class at Monaco, and here is Jim's 1.5 Lotus 21 at Reims, followed by Innes Ireland in another 21, both cars had the same panels removed as Stirling's car. However I don't think you'd see the 18 and 21 in the same race in this configuration.

Well, never seen or even heard of that one before, Chris! Well found.

Martin,
My humble attempt at the Lotus 18. Now I need to install an Immense Miniatures Stirling Moss.

Interesting, but not enough support for a 10 lap race. But then, in the 60s, you could find 4 or even 6 Brooklands Rolls-Royces in one race because they gave us the longest wheelbases.
