In August 1967, on a sodden acreage in rural Ontario that less than ten years before had been mere pasture and forest, my personal gods in their colourful chariots battled for glory and immortal memory in the very first F1 Grand Prix of Canada…. and I was there to witness it.
No amount of rain and wind could dampen my enthusiasm at finally seeing, and hearing, the F1 cars and the heroic drivers I had only been able to read about in the pages of Road & Track and Motor Sport until then. I was 15 years old and I will remember that day for the rest of my life.
This year is the 50th anniversary of that landmark event. 2017 also marks Canada’s 150th and my 65th birthdays. Major milestones all!
So, to celebrate these three important anniversaries I plan to organize the:
1967 GRAND PRIX of/du CANADA PROXY
a limited series of proxy races culminating in a championship for 1/32nd scale slot cars modeled on the Formula One cars of 1967 to be contested on a selection of tracks in Canada.
Entries will be welcomed from Canada and Internationally. Detailed Technical Regulations will be published soon. My intent is to create a set of rules that could include anything from a tuned or adapted RTR car (eg. Scalextric Lotus 49 or Eagle), to a commercial kit chassis (eg. Policar, Penelope Pitlane or Beardog) under an artisan resin shell, to a full scratch built chassis and homemade body shell. My pattern will be the current VRAA Proxy Rules with appropriate changes to reflect the 3-litre F1 era.
I hope some members of this forum will consider building an entry.
