"Once more into the breach" This story begins a while ago -2004 to be specific. For those interested in slot car archeology, here is a link to the original build thread:
Hatching an Eagle
When I looked it up recently, all of the images had disappeared, some due to the Photobucket disaster, others ?? I restored those I could access.
After the initial Rad Trax disaster, the Eagle sallied forth 2 more times. The last was the 2012 GPdeG. Feedback from that outing was complimentary about the handling and speed but also noted that the car had no brakes at all! On inspection, it was also evident that the gears were iffy.
Preparation for the current outing consisted of a new motor(Scalextric red can), new gears, new Paul Gage tires and a bit of guide trimming to meet spec + new braid.
The body received a little paint touch-up, new decals from Indycals (outstanding quality) and, of course, a proper Dan Gurney head from Immense Miniatures. I felt really bad about covering most of the excellent detail on the latter with a scarf but that's what the photos showed
A couple of comments in passing: I have learned that, given the fact that the shaft on 050 motors does not extend through the comm end, press-on gears are not a good idea. I hold the rotating shaft of a powered motor against a fine file until things are a snug sliding fit and the use Loctite on the shaft (and, in this case, the required adapter). Secondly, an unbiased examination of the Eagle and comparison to other examples on this thread offers ample evidence that the bar has been raised over the past decade+.
A final note: As I was looking at the various rules and associated penalties to try to ensure compliance, It occurred to me to ask if, with all these potential deductions, there are any additions for oldest car (13 years) and/or oldest builder (81)
