Very nice!
What do you mean by a "pin wash" ? The dull coat - is that matte clear or what exactly is that and how do you do that? I am interested as I have a similar build (waiting) and would like to replicate a finish like you have done on this very impressive build.
Thanks for posting.
Regards Richard

I paint the body with the usual Tamiya gloss paint so I can put down the decals then I use Vallejo model wash for dark vehicles, diluted a bit with water then I dip a small paint brush and run it in and around whatever I want to highlight. Any excess I wipe off with a Qtip but you must do that while it still wet. When all is said and done then a final few coats of Tamiya flat clear (TS-80).

Thanks for the detail explanation - that will come in very handy. The finish you achieved looked really authentic and true to the period photos we see of "oil stained" cars.

A great looking car. I have done one car in a matt finish - a Lancia Ferrari D50. I really like it and think of it as one of my better looking cars - but otherwise I have done a gloss finish aside from a yellow Talbot which has a more satin finish. I have thought about doing all my vintage GP cars in a matt / dull finish but I look at some cars and I like them with a shiny finish. I just finished a Vanwall and think it wouldn't look as good if it had a matt finish.
What finish did these cars actually have. It is hard to tell from period photos - sometimes matt finish looks right and others not so. Maybe it is a case of variation based on the car. For example I am not sure a French Blue Talbot would look good with a matt finish but the Belgiam yellow one does.
cheers David
