Thanks for setting up this forum. It shows huge potential, and is already becoming, the home for many of the best 1:32 scale scratch model builders. The stars of this site will be a great resource for wannabes - like me.
I am Mark. I am from the south east corner of Wisconsin USA. Danni O'Laisip is my racing game related persona. He was born in 1911 like his anagram the Indianapolis 500. I have been Danni O'Laisip since a group of friends started an Avalon Hill's Speed Circuit racing league that played in the 90s. That series ran for something like 12 years. We also palyed some Formula De. Danni O'Laisip and his race team the Icarian Drivers Inventive On Track Systems was a fixture for most of that time.
My first slot car track had no slots. It was a TCR Slotless HO oval nailed to a sheet of ply wood. It was the perfect follow up to my Hotwheels Sizzlers track. Come to think of it I always had small toy cars and built models of them.
Some of my favorite racing memories were working in the yard listening to the Indy 500 on the radio then later that night tuning in to see the replay on ABC. I have attended many many IndyCar events at The Milwaukee Mile. I have one foggy memory of being on top of someone's camper, in the infield of The Mile for one of Johnny Rutherford's wins. I have been to about 8 Indy 500s & probably 6 Michigan 500s during the CART era. I stopped going to Indy when Tony George split the series. Yes. I was at the US 500. I returned to Indy for 2 F1 races. Today, I still watch IndyCar & F1 but am currently in love with LeMans sports cars. The ALMS/GrandAm merger has me anxious.
Having kids gave me an excuse to continue playing with toy cars: Hotwheels, Pinewood Derby cars, HO Slot cars, then the sickness of 1:32 slots hit me. SCX Digital got me hooked. The Ravensring is my basement trioval with infield road course. Most of my cars are repainted. I have dabbled with silicone mold making & resin casting. My Daedalian Waxworks are a continuation of Danni O'Laisip's fictional chassis builder. My routed wood tracks have been limited to 2' X 4' SLOP autocross style tracks. These fit within my Ravensring and are easy enough to swap out quickly. I knew this was a sickness when I somehow found my self co-running a proxy series.
I'd like to perfect my mold making skills and learn how to scratch build chassis - maybe even digitize those.
