I am looking for advice on in line gearing for 1.5 litre Grand Prix era racing, pinions, gears, motor influence and wheel/tyre sizes, to decide on what to use on my next proxy entry. I have limited experience and usually use what I have available rather than deciding on a set up to use beforehand. Input thoughts and ideas will be most appreciated. Thanks Nigel

Hello Nigel, since the FF050 slim cans aren't usually very torque-y, I prefer a 7 tooth pinion or even a 6 tooth if you can find one. Especially since there isn't a lot of room for a large crown gear, and the tire OD diameter will need to be close to scale.
Does this mean there is talk of a new 1.5l-era proxy event? I'm in..... -Max

Thanks Nigel Hi Nigel,.....a few more details would be helpful.....particularly motor choice and tyre dia. If you are running a 14K(ish) 050 motor with 20/22 mm rear tyres, 10/23 will be the best all round ratio (if you can get the car in under 65/70 gms)...........if you are planning on running a different configuration, the ratio may well need to be changed...........so a bit tough to be specific without knowing ......more details please !! Cheers Chris Walker

Thank you Chris, SLO and Max
Actually I don’t have a preferred motor gear or set up in mind, I was hoping someone would go through various set ups
Would a high rev motor with certain gearing be more preferable to a low rev motor on different gearing?
I have been in VRAA with the BWA motor and run my home race cars with the low power motor to my 1.5 litre era cars fitting the scalextric type 18k motor in my 3 litre 1966_68 cars, as I feel the motors represent the difference in scale power wise (if that makes sense)
Thank you for the advice received, and if anyone wants to add more thoughts I am all ears, or should that be eyes.
Tyre diameter will probably be 20-21 mm and recommendations on choice would be welcomed too, as I have said in other posts I don’t belong to a club and only race against the clock at home, now on a Policar track.
Many thanks again, Nigel
