Starting with an old Strombecker "BRM" (shell was split in top and bottom sections), then using a chassis from a RTR Scalextric Cooper Climax T53, and rims taken from a Jaguar whose origins I've forgotten..., I've made progress toward creating a 62 BRM P57 with stack pipes. I picked that chassis since the suspension looks similar and also so it will have performance parity when I run it with other RTR cars of that period. Unfortunately, I did not get one of the Jag rims on straight and its performance is off. I still have to finish the grill on the front, add some sort of an engine stack (though it won't show much) and then piece it all together. I'm going to try to insert a picture, but this is my first time doing it on this site, so not sure how that will go...

That's a nice combination Marc. The picture incidentally is fine, left click on the image and a nice big image appears.
Peter.

FINISHED!
The shell is an old Strombecker, "British BRM Formula 1" Shell no. 8135, which came in two parts, top and bottom and originally with running gear. I glued the top and bottom together ,modified a few things and opened the bottom up to accept an RTR chassis from a newer Scalextric Cooper Climax (C2639 A), which I had to lengthen. The rims were taken from a Carrera RTR Jaguar type D.
The exhaust are aluminum tubing. I cut the opening and installed a screen cover for the engine intakes (from spares box). (like at 62 Dutch GP)
Also from spares I had a Graham Hill head and passable body. Dash board scratch.
Trans-axle rear face scratch built Added scratch twin-bar grill Added heat sink box (left side)

Question: What is the upgraded motor is used in the "Sport" versions of Scalextric's F1 Cooper Climax and shark nose Ferrari?
I'm asking because I want to use that same motor in this BRM that I recently finished, which uses a converted normal (non-Sport) chassis from the Cooper Climax. Compared to the "Sport" versions of the Cooper and Shark Nose, the BRM is slow. I want the BRM to have the same motor, but don't know what to upgrade to.
Thank you in advance for your help.

I am guessing the motor you want is the Scalextric silver can FF050 motor....the slimline. Scalextric quoted 18k rpm but it is a bit more than that in reality.

I run my 1961/1965 cars with the low power motor that was used in most proxy races for these cars, I find the low power suits the smaller tyres. In the return to power series of Grand Prix cars for the 1966 onward cars I use the higher reving, faster motor Scalextric 18k (or more) motor or equivalent . This gives the later cars the power and handling advantage with the wider tyres, as in real racing. Just my thoughts of course . Regards Nigel

Other than the wrapper on the motor, there is zero difference between the motors in the regular vs "sport" versions of the Scaley cars,...either their F1 cars or their sedan/sports models. A nicer box, a card identifying the production number of your particular car, and on some of the sedan/sports cars bronze/brass rear axle bushings,.....all yours for a premium price. Cheers Chris Walker
