Here are two 'latest' builds, and one from a long time ago. Before Christmas I set myself a target of building two Lotus 25s from 1963 and 1964 and a Lotus 33 - probably the 2 litre car from 1966. As its turned out I have so far completed the two 25s to go with the 1962 car I built as one of my first scratchbuilds. I haven't started the 33 yet as I got a bit sidetracked by a Ferrari 612P which has been awaiting completion for some time (as in years) and about which I'll be posting on the Sports Car Forum.
The two latest 25s have Pre Wing shells. The first represents the 1963 Italian GP winner where Jim Clark became World Champion and the second the 1963 British GP winning car which had a 33 type engine cover and a fuel injected engine. I believe the latter is the car in the Jim Clark museum in Duns which i saw last September, although that is slightly different in its current form. The older model is the 25 from the 1962 Dutch GP and has a Dave Jones shell which is probably truest to scale of the three.
The three cars are mechanically and electrically different to each other. The earliest car has a very simple brass chassis, Solarbotics motor and fairly basic suspension detail; its not very fast but is fun to drive. The 1963 car has a Beardog chassis and an HO motor of unknown rpm which I bought from Ranch Design years ago. Its surprisingly quick (its competitive with an 18k rpm FF050) and very easy to drive. Both these cars have Ranch Design gears (what a pity they are no longer available). The 1964 car uses what might be termed the latest technology with a Policar motor/gearbox pod and a brass and wire front chassis; its quick, smooth and has excellent brakes but probably needs a bit more concentration to get the best out of it.
I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story.
