I do not remember who told me--someone on the Slotforum DL, but a good source of springs for shocks can be disposeable lighter springs--something to look into? If you ever need one (they are each a couple of inches in length), let me know as I have several. Howard
PS:I think I can credit Dave Larson for this info but am not positive.

Use the springs out of a small BIC lighter.

I prefer these springs, too. Unfortunately, the time of these lighters passes away in Germany. The new lighters more and more have piezo starters, and it begins to be difficult to find the old BIC lighters.

If you have any old locks lying around break them open and the springs on the tumblers are quite good, depending on the size of the lock of course. Regards Nigel

This is what I use. Bead wire or craft wire, 26 gauge.
