I have not seen one "in the resin", so to speak, and can't therefore comment on the PP Matra, but the Scalextric Lotus 49 is definitely too small.
Kind regards,
Russell

Russell, I thought the Lotus 49 was just a bit too svelte. I've smoothed out some of the bumps but much more to do before this passes the good to go test.

I just bought a Mattel Vac U Form, so the next step is to get some balsa wood and start carving. I probably should get LOTS of balsa wood and LOTS of plastic sheets as it might take quite a few tries before I figure out the windscreen shaping process.

The original resin Cosworth and a repainted/shaved Cosworth from a Scalex kit (sans gearbox, battery, etc). I'll make those bits out of resin and plastic card. Trial fit.. I'll attach the pieces after I add the rear suspension and lower front suspension.

Great effort Mark, a big difference to the old Airfix. It's going to be nice when finished. Nigel

Looking good there Mark, loving that use of the Scaley DFV, resin one's are always rubbish sadly. Did you buy the spare parts or crash a whole car to take it out? Expensive if you did! Get some filler on the body crack - good idea to paint it to see better the condition before filling.... i hope i'm right about that anyway!!
Keep going

Andi,
Scalextric sells quite a few of these components as spare parts, so I didn't have to kitbash a complete car model to get what I needed for this project. Well, I take that back.. they don't sell the driver separately (which is a shame), so one of my Scalextric Lotus models is now missing a driver!

Mark I just happen to have a mould of the Lotus 49 driver!

Phil,
That will come in very handy for builds.. that driver has the perfect shape to slip over an FF050 can in a car with a wheelbase of 75mm or so.
I think the head may be a bit oversized but those are easy enough to swap out.

I'm sure you have plenty of reference photos but here is the car snapped by me at the January 1969 Racing Car Show in London. David

David, Thank you. It does make me wonder (among other things) if I need to be looking for a different shade of acrylic paint --I've got Tamiya French Racing Blue on the car right now. On the other hand, this picture is a good example of how different colors appear depending on whether the car is in the sunlight or shade. It seems to make as much difference with French Blue as it does with BRM greeen.

Hi Mark, Two Matra MS10 Cosworth's were built. MS10/1 debuted at the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch on 17th March 1968, driven by Jackie Stewart to 6th place. It's last race was the 1969 South African Grand Prix, driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise (6th). MS10/2 debuted at the Spanish GP at Jarama on 12th May 1968, with Jean-Pierre Beltoise driving it to 5th place. It's final race was the International Trophy at Silverstone on 30th March 1969, with Jackie Stewart finishing 3rd. The last Grand Prix for MS10/2 was the South African GP at Kyalami on 1st March 1969, where Jackie Stewart drove it to victory. By then it was wearing high wings and appears to have a much smaller windscreen:- Kind regards, Russell

The cockpit/windscreen opening is still too wide.. but I'm leaving well enough alone.

Hey Mark, you do what you can and move on. I think your MS10 is looking very promising!
