I love the color. Some of the footage of the drivers is amazing. Look at the ground clearance on the ERA... that's not 1/16" in 1/32!

BRM's ignominious debut of the V-16 at Silverstone is featured around the 14:00. Not a highpoint for the constructor!




This segment ends with the comment "The Germans were coming back", as it shows the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 rolling out. No martial music though.

I hope to find the remaining segments somewhere on YouTube.

Many thanks for posting this Mark. What a wonderful film. I wasn't in possession of a TV when this was first broadcast in 1988. Channel 4 aired one or two decent motor racing documentaries in the late 80s and early 90s, but I've never seen this one before.

Channel 4 also did the evening of motor racing, anyone remember that? Doug Nye, Stirling Moss and others chatting about F1 and racing in general for about 8 hours between showing classic Ford archive films. It was magic but sadly never to be repeated.
