Hi all and Merry Christmas. Well I'm happy with how the intake meshes look. Great tip with regard making a former, thank you for that David. I gave the car it's first coat of paint today. So tomorrow, I hope to polish it and give the 156 her second coat. As you can see I'm working on the cars dash board. Going to have a go and make some decal gauges, fingers crossed. I have the shell decals but drivers bodies and heads have yet to arrive, I hope they do soon. I'm due back at work soon and I want to get my projects sorted prior. Still need to have a go at the rear shocks. Been reading up on here with how to manufacture them. Love this forum. Cheers. Brian

Made the rear suspension yesterday. Which I am very pleased with. Here is my 156 as of today. The wind shield is not secure as yet, so will sit a little lower and I'm going to thin out the tyres. I am struggling to find a correct size steering wheel. Still waiting for the driver to arrive from the States. Hope he turns up soon. Cheers and Merry Christmas. Brian

I am pleased to announce that Von Trips 156 is finally finished. Well it does needs lot of work to run well, but the building is complete. I Have asked Mr Wisdom if he would do me the honour of taking some better pic's for me. I hope everyone is having a great Christmas. All the best. Brian

That is just a sweet looking little Ferrari. Just amazing that it is the same shell in the first posts.
Thank you so much for sharing the process.

Brian
An excellent job now the car is finished.
I believe I'm right in saying this is only your second ever scratchbuilt F1 slot car and must say that the level of reworking and improving of the bodyshell as well as the extra fine detailing you have done is very impressive and it shows your very real passion for the subject.

Thanks for all the kind comments.
I'm really pleased with how the 156 turned out.
Thought I'd wrecked it when I cut the rear end off.
Yes David, this is my second F1 scratch build, My Matra MS10 being my first. The Matra has been raced many times and I'm pleased to say it has only had to have minor repairs. Von Trip has taken his 156 around my club track last week and it went really well, much better than I expected.
My next pre-wing F1 is going to be a Lotus 16. I don't know when I'll be starting this as I'm due back at work in January and as I'm in the Navy I never know when I'm going to be next home.
I am in awe of the builds on this Forum, the skill and execution. I learn new skills on every build and find this forum very helpful for advice and encouragement. I'm also very privileged to have the inspiring Dave Wisdom as a friend and club member, his advice is always gratefully received.
My first attempt at suspension went well, soldering skills and painting have improved. So fingers crossed for the Lotus.
Mr Wisdom has my little 156 to take some better quality pictures for me. So I will post some more pictures soon, sorry in advance. I apologize for over posting of pic's. I maybe 46, but I get quite pleased with myself and excited the more I progress into a build. Like a small child I want the world to know.
Happy New Year to all.
Brian

Likewise, Brian - Happy New year, 2015 to you too...
Great build - I have yet to chase up your first one, but you certainly have brought life to this model..Von Trip would have had a bigger smile on his face than you did on yours.... so great to have him back out and about again. Yes, cutting an almost perfect part of a model off for a replacement is a daunting task. From the very first cut, I get a sense of urgency to put it back together again. The excellent results you have achieved should now have removed all doubt of you taking such drastic measures in future. I am certain you are more than happy with this great achievement.
I also applaud your work with this first suspension build - it most certainly now gives me impetus to put a little more into mine... also a first timer, but in both model and suspension.
So, I guess during your time at sea - you'll be "planning" that Lotus build. I don't quite understand the disciplines of navy life - but ask if it is possible to take a little box of bits with you to fiddle with in your leisure time... if indeed, you get any at sea..... up and down, rolling left and right probably are not the ideal conditions in which to take on delicate work - or perhaps, it might not be appropriate in the company you share...
Great build, Brian - looking forward to your starting on the Lotus...and yes, thanks for sharing - don't ever believe you can over-post pix, everyone likes pix..... it's things like my incessant drivel that begins to wear thin..... the "x" at top is always an option - and I perceive that many use it prior to reaching the end of some of my posts.....

Thanks Rosco, I will be taking a few bits and pieces away to tinker with. But it can be quite demanding when I'm away and getting spares can be difficult. Here's some new photo's taken by Dave. Thanks Dave. Happy New Year. Brian

Yes David - why is it that Scarlet Red always makes models look so fast.....?... I was a little concerned with that mechanic standing so close as this little gem seemed to roar past.... A most excellent effort, Brian... where's that Lotus at.....?
