Greetings to all, I have been working on a Mac Pinches Alfa P3b body the last couple of weeks. It's modeled as the Nuvolari driven car #12 that won the 1935 German GP at Nurburgring (considered one of the greatest "come from behind" wins of all time). I modified the original body extension at the front to more closely approximate that seen on the actual #12 car. A piece of brass tubing was bent in an effort to visually suggest the curved front axle seen on the 1:1 car, with the 3/32 straight axle running within. Currently, the front axle and wheels are mounted directly to the body, with the rears in a PP Sm1s chassis. Power is from a 14K FF BWA motor, Slot-it gears & PCS wheels were used; guide at the front is behind the front axle assembly. The chassis is also well fastened to the body. How this "split chassis" will all work on a track remains to be seen! Driver is the one that was included with the P3b body and I may substitute one of the Nuvolari drivers available from Immense Miniatures.

I meant to include in my original post: my understanding is that new versions of the Mac Pinches Pre-Add bodies will again be available through Pendle Slot Racing beginning in 2015. Is there a list of what will eventually be offered? I have been searching for versions of the early Mercedes W25 bodies for some time without any luck. Anyone know if these will be offered at some point?
Thanks, Howard

Pendle Slot Racing Nov.23.2014) PENDLE SLOT RACING NEW OWNERS OF PRE-ADD BODIES AND PENELOPE PITLANE Pre-Add Powered by Penelope Pitlane 2015 will see the re-introduction of the range of Pre-Add 1/32nd scale resin body kits first released during the early 1990s and mid 2000 by Mac Pinches. Under the new ownership of Pendle Slot Racing, the range of 25 bodies will receive a careful make-over whilst staying true to the original shapes created by Mac. The original masters will be carefully cleaned and detailed where necessary in order to bring them up to 2015 standards expected by today's modellers. The bodies will then be matched up to an appropriate Penelope Pitlane chassis and have mountings moulded in place. It is intended that 5 or 6 bodies from the range will be re-issued during 2015. Starting with a body originally released back in early 2000 which Mac himself then re-mastered but never put back into production.

Howard,
There are some very lovely touches on this build; I really like the weathered/scorched treatment on the exhaust pipe.
Yes, I think an IM Nuvolari would set off this car just perfectly.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Mark, Thanks for the positive comments. It's interesting... the photographs seem to accentuate some of the painting effects I tried. I tend to keep what I'm trying very subtle, such as the blue and orange "heat" effects on the exhaust near the engine. It is definitely more noticeable in the photos. Digital cameras do make certain colors more vivid apparently. Another first attempt was using number decals on the radiator, and then stippling in black to create the reduced intensity as seen on a real car. Trying this sort of thing is all part of the enjoyment for me. I have also been trying to think of a way to paint the wire wheels, but keep the back interior surface silver to keep it more realistic as a brake drum or rotor. I tried painting one before assembling the spokes, but the paint was trashed in the assembly process. I ended up just assembling them and then painting, but this also paints the back surface. This morning I thought of a different method that might work, so will give it a try. Perhaps others have done something like this already. I'm going to take the painted wheels and use a hypodermic syringe with a little thinned silver paint to get past the spokes and on to the back surface. If it's well thinned, it should be able to be gently swirled to cover[/font], with excess coming out the axle bore.

If anyone is interested, I tried "injecting" thinned silver paint behind the spokes on one of the red painted wheels. Not a good idea... too little didn't cover the back surface, while enough paint to accomplish that ended up fouling the spokes. Just made a little mess to clean up. How do others accomplish this? It seems careful selective prepainting prior to assembly is the only way? thanks for any suggestions.
cheers, Howard

Hi Howard.
A nice build, a far better body than the geodes one and good news to hear that it may be available again. May I ask where the Alfa Romeo badge on the radiator shroud came from?
The wheels, presumably Penelope Pitlane obviously can be built up pre-painted, as the Birkin Bentley on the PP website demonstrates. Did you paint the inner spokes prior to forming them into their finished shape?
Cheers, Peter.

Thanks Peter. I have decided to disassemble the wheels, strip the existing paint, and start again. Perhaps a bit more patience will give a better result this next time. The wheels seen in the images were completely assembled and then just sprayed using a spray can. You can see the little droplets on the spokes. Hopefully Santa may bring an air brush for Christmas, as I've been mostly good this year. That should help with some of the paint work. I was glad to find several of the original Mac Pinches bodies to build. The Alfa Romeo badge was one of the decals included with the body (there were 2). I also am looking forward to seeing the new Pre-add editions to be offered by Pendle Slot Racing.

I finished the re-do on the wheels, and I like them better. I'm putting another image of the car with them for comparison. I've also sealed the decals and paint with a low gloss floor finish product.
