Hi Everyone
My name is Charles Morris and I have been scratch building and collecting formula1 slot cars since the late 60s. What started me out on this passion of slot cars and formula1 was going to see the movie Grand Prix in full 70mm cinemascope when I was 14 years old in Ottawa, and being totally blown away by the driving sequences, especially Monaco, Spa and Monza. At the time Monogram 1964 Ferrari 158s, and Lotus 33s were available, and my 3 best friends and I had many enjoyable but serious races using these great running slot cars on a combined 4 lane Scalextric track. I still have 6 of these cars in my collection. Later in 1970 I went to the Canadian GP at St Jovite and loved the sounds of the Ferraris which validated my passion.
I have purchased some Prewing bodies from the 66/67 3litre formula and some Beta bodies from the same time frame. Having come across some rather inexpensive all white Scalextric Lotus 49s I am busy making up the 1966 and 67 grid to compliment the already released Eagle and Lotus 49s from Scalextric. I realise there are scale issues with the Lotus’ gearbox but I can live with that. I think the other details like full driver figure, and with adding on detail bits from various suppliers, more than compensates for the rather large rear end. I am always on the lookout for detail parts.
Being a Gilles Villeneuve fan I purchased some great bodies from George Turner and will be tackling them when I finish the 60s grid. I have really been enjoying getting back into this hobby especially with some of the tools not available to me in the early days. With winter coming on here in Vienna, there will be many hours spent at my workbench. Glad to join the forum and hope to post some pictures of my projects soon.
Cheers
Charles
