HOWDY I'M JOHN ELLIS;
FROM CHRISTCHURCH NEW ZEALAND; IVE HAVE BEEN KEEN ON MOTOR RACING SINCE THE EARLY 60'S AND EUROPEAN F1 UP UNTIL LATE 70'S.
IN NZ ITS BEEN THE TASMAN RACES WIGRAM , TERETONGA AND LATER ALL COMERS SALOON THROUGH OUT SOUTH ISLAND.
IN AUSTRALIA, IT'S WARWICK FARM, BATHURST, ECT. HENCE MY INTEREST IN SLOT CARS STARTING AT HIGH SCHOOL WHEN ALL THAT WAS AVAILABLE WAS LIMITED SCALEXTRIC. WE HAD GREAT ENVY OF WHAT WAS AVAILABLE IN GB THROUGH MAGAZINES.
THE CARS TODAY ARE INCREDIBLE IN PERFORMANCE AND DETAIL. BUT MORE AMAZING IS WHAT SOME PEOPLE CREATE THROUGH SCRATCH BUILDING ESPECIALLY ON THIS SITE. HERE IN CHRISTCHURCH WE HAVE A LARGE CLUB TRACK OF ABOUT 50 MEMBERS, WE RUN MAINLY OFF THE SHELF CARS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF WOODEN TRACKS SPREAD AROUND SUBURBS.
I MYSELF HAVE A 12 METRE 4 LANE WOODEN TRACK, ON WHICH WE DO SOME NOT TOO SERIOUS RACING, BUT HAVE A LOT OF FUN.
OTHER THAN MYSELF VERY FEW ARE INTERESTED IN RESIN CARS. PLUS WE STILL HAVE GO OVERSEAS FOR MANY AFTER MARKET PARTS, BUT IT IS A LOT EASIER NOW WITH INTERNET. YOU MAY HAVE GATHERED MY AGE BY NOW PERHAPS RELIVING WHAT YOU COULDNT GET IN NZ IN THE 60S

Welcome to the Forum John. Even though the title is formula one, you will find a few Tasman cars on here!

Hi John, welcome aboard. I haven't been here long myself - but I've learned heaps and heaps from the many helpful and patient members within. Never know, you might just get the bug for building something within the parameters of this forum.. and, as Munter states - there are models here which competed in the Tasman cup. Please do join the forum as a member - you'll be afforded an even greater response to your posts..
frats, Rosco

THANKS GUYS FOR THE WELCOME,
I'M BIT HOPELESS NAVIGATING AROUND A COMPUTER BUT HAVE COUPLE OF DAUGHTERS THAT MAY HELP. PARTICULARY PHOTOS. I CAN'T SAY I'M A FULLY FLEDGED SCRATCH BUILDER ALL MY F1 CARS ARE IN THE MAIN PENELOPE PITLANE BODIES USING THEIR BRASS CHASSIS.
IN THE EARLY YEARS I'VE ALWAYS HAD DIFFICULTY BUILDING AND GETTING A CHASSIS TO FIT PROPERLY. BUT NOW WITH AFTER MARKET CHASSIS AND BETTER GLUES ITS EASIER. IN THE EARLY 60'S ARALDITE WASN'T AVAILABLE IN N.Z.
AS I'VE MENTIONED IT WAS MAINLY SCALEXTRIC IN CHRISTCHURCH. BUT I ARRIVED IN SYDNEY IN 1970, JUST AS THE SLOT CAR CRAZE WAS DYING I REMEMBER WALKING INTO A REAL MODEL SHOP {WE ONLY HAD BICYCLE SHOPS WITH A FEW MODELS} THERE WAS KB,MONOGRAM ECT 1/24 AND KITS STACKED TO COUNTER HEIGHT ALL $1.86 EACH.
I BOUGHT A FEW SENT THEM HOME. BUT NOW I HAD TASTED AUSTRALIAN BEER. SLOTS WERE FORGOTTEN ABOUT FOR AWHILE.
ENOUGH REMINISCING, THE LAST CAR I FINISHED BEFORE XMAS WAS A PP SCARAB, I HAVE AB0UT 10 VARIOUS 1960'S F-1 CARS.
MY BEST BUILD IS A FERRARI 246 DINO, BUT IT'S THE SLOWEST. THE DEAREST IS A BEARDOG INDY EAGLE. MOST MEMBERS OF THE CLUB I'M IN AREN'T INTERESTED IN EARLY F-1 SO I RUN F-1 RACES ON MY OWN TRACK AT 10 VOLTS WHICH MEANS A LOT OF HEAVY SQUEEZING OF THE CONTROLLERS.

Hi John,
Chris the Administrator here,
welcome to the forum. You may know me as Beardog Racing, I'm glad you bought an Eagle, it was one of my best.
Please join it's easy I'm sure one of your daughters can help, and posting pictures is easy too, once you get the hang of it.
Please do me a favour though, PLEASE STOP USING ALL CAPS, it's a social media faux pas...it's impolite and means you're shouting.
Again welcome, please join and enjoy yourself.
Chris

John I'm assuming you've been trying to join the forum as johne or aunty, if that's you, you should be able to post under one of those names. I sent you an e-mail (check you junk box) who do you want to be?
