Wow! Art, your team of freelance photographers and Fritz the Pulitzer Prize-worthy scribe have really outdone themselves on this coverage. My thanks to the crack drivers and volunteer marshals from the R32 club, too. Congrats to Chris on his double win. Both championships are still open and will be decided at the Autodrome Grande Finale in a couple of weeks. I will update the Official Results and Championship Standings thread on Tuesday when I return from a short trip, but it looks to me that the GP1.5 class contenders are only 2 points apart and the GP2.5 leaders are only separated by 8 points. There were far too many photos posted by Art/Fritz on SCI (dozens!) for me to copy into Photobucket and paste in this thread. Please follow this link and enjoy all the beautiful shots of your cars racing on the most scenic of the classic Grand Prix circuits -- the Ring. www.slotcarillustrated.com/portal/forums/showthread.php?t=91327Old23

I did read the report on Auslot. The full story was an excellent piece of slot photo journalism. I enjoyed the pictorial essay immensely. Thank you again.

Hi Stewart
Please thank Art and his team for running the races and for the superb photographs (I don't post on SCI). I really don't mind my 'tail end Charlie' status, its just a pleasure to take part in the series and especially at a venue as splendid as the 'Ring. Must speak to the mechanics though about putting in the wrong gear ratios!
Best Regards
David

Here are the Official Results for Race 7 at The 'Ring: In the GP1.5 Race at the 'Ring, Chris' Ferrari, after the sub-par showing at the Targa, came back strong with a Trifecta : pole position, fastest race lap and first place in the main event Posted Image. The Old23 Lotus trailed by over a lap in second place Posted Image, while the Stubbo Brabham was a further two laps astern in third Posted Image. That makes four podiums in a row for the Walker-liveried Brabham from down under; a remarkable show of consistency in the latter part of the VRAA season. After its celebrated victory at the last round, the Chas Cooper had to settle for fourth place at the 'Ring, though comfortably clear of a gaggle of cars fighting over the following positions. The BRMs of Terry and RIR, the Honda of Phil and the AMCC Lotus were separated by less than a lap at the flag. Marek's Honda struggled home in tenth while David's BRM was disadvantaged on the long straights by a short course gearbox. In the GP2.5 race, Chris repeated the triple. His Lotus 16 was the only car to lap below the seven second barrier as it cruised to victory Posted Image a lap and a half ahead of the Mercedes Posted Image. This time Rossko's Bugatti reversed recent form and beat back Phil's Maserati for third Posted Image. Marek's Vanwall seemed to like the high speed circuit as it finished in fifth. Aloha's Maserati was the best of the front motored cars in sixth, ahead of the Chas Vanwall, Fastwagon's Maser and David's Ferrari. The GP2.5 winners could not match the lap count of the top GP1.5 cars, though their fastest laps were remarkably similar. Here are the updated Official Championship Standings after Race 7: With only one race to go, the odds have shifted slightly in favour of Team Chris over Team Old23 while leaving both Championships wide open. In GP1.5 the Ferrari 158 and the Lotus 21 are a mere two points apart and fifty points clear of Chas's Cooper. That means it will be a straight fight between the two leaders for the top prize. Behind them, is a group of half a dozen cars battling for the third step of the Championship podium and the following posiitions. Stubbo's Brabham has been consistently fast lately, with Chas's Cooper usually following in his tracks, except for that unexpected win at the Targa. However, with a ten point lead all the Cooper needs to do is follow the Brabham home in order to ensure third in the Championship. If either, or both, of these cars should falter, the AMCC Lotus 24, Phil's Honda, and Terry's BRM are poised to strike. In GP2.5, the sleek Lotus 16 has opened up an eight point lead over the Silver Arrow, leaving an uphill battle for the Mercedes. Third place Rossko's Bugatti is too far back to challenge, but is still in a battle of its own with Phil's Maserati for the bottom step of the podium, though its eight point margin will be difficult to overcome. Fifth place is held by Aloha's Maserati with a comfortable ten point lead over the battling Vanwalls in a dead heat. In the event of a points tie for the Championship of either class, victory will be decided by the greater number of race wins then, if needed, by the greater number of second place finishes, etc. until the VRAA 2015 Champions are declared in each class. So it has all come down to the Grand Finale di Autodromo where anything can happen, and usually does. Anticipation is high. Marek has started the story while he awaits the arrival of the VRAA transporters. Reports leaking across the frontier hint at Martial Law being declared to restrain the exuberance of the local population. Fat chance of that, I say. A race at the Autodrome is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. With fast cars. I'm hoping we can wrap the season by the end of the month but as always at this time of year, it will depend on weather and gathering the WIMC clan to staff the event. Stay tuned.Posted Image Stewart

We were scheduled to race this week but bad weather today made the drive to Cornwall too dangerous. Hey, it's winter in Canada eh? We'll try again next week. Old23

Here are the Official Results for Race 8 at the Autodrome, Cornwall: In the GP2.5 race, it was the closest of battles with the #14 Mercedes pipping the #22 Lotus by less than a tenth of a lap at the finish. Between them, the season-long rivals have won every race with the final tally at four wins each. These two cars were in a class of their own at the Autodrome with a gap of almost five laps back to the third place finisher, Rossko’s Bugatti #26. Phil’s #32 Maserati crossed the line fourth, a lap behind. The two front-motored Maserati of Aloha and Fastwagon tied for fifth place ahead of the two Vanwalls of Marek and Chas, the four cars covered by only one lap. David Mitcham’s lovely Ferrari was ninth, another lap behind. In the GP1.5 race, the championship contenders started the race only two points apart so a win at the Autodrome would determine which car would be the VRAA 2015 Champion. At the finish line, Chris’s #11 Ferrari sealed the deal with a margin of 7/10ths of a lap over the Old23 Team Lotus #28. Stubbo’s Brabham completed the top three once again, for the fifth race in succession! Terry’s BRM finished a fine fourth ahead of Chas’s reliable Cooper-Climax and the veteran French blue BRM of RIR. The Mitcham BRM scored its best result of the season with a popular seventh with Max’s Brabham and Marek’s Honda following a lap behind. Unfortunately, the two Tasmanians, the AMCC Lotus and Kalbfell Honda, trailed the field well off the pace, their motors seeming tired at the end of the season and their rubber tires not offering the same level of grip as the urethane-shod cars. Here are the updated and Final VRAA 2015 Championship Standings: The VRAA 2015 Championships came down to the final race at the Autodrome with the chance of victory in both classes within reach of either the Team Chris and Team Old23 entries. In GP1.5, the Old23 Lotus 21 held a narrow lead of only 2 points over Chris’s Ferrari, while in GP2.5 the Team Chris Lotus 16 had an 8 point lead over Old23’s Silver Arrow. A second place in the Autodrome GP2.5 race was all the #22 Lotus needed to secure the 2015 Championship. That and the Fastest Race Lap 2-point bonus left the Team Chris car 4 points clear of its rival. The Rossko #26 Bugatti claimed third place in the Final Standings ahead of Phil’s Maserati. Rookie entrant Aloha/Dale’s privateer Maserati held on to fifth, while the battle of the Vanwalls was won by Marek’s #69 from Chas’s #20. Fastwagon’s Maser and David’s Ferrari trailed the field. Reigning GP1.5 Champion, Team Chris squeaked past the Team Old23 Lotus to claim its second VRAA Championship in the half-tonner class by an oh-so-narrow 2-point spread. That’s three VRAA Championships in two seasons for the Toronto constructor! While it wasn’t as dominant a victory as last season, the #11 Ferrari had the speed when it mattered to close the deal. Chas’s #6 Cooper claimed third place in the standings, holding off the charging Stubbo Brabham. Terry’s BRM, the winner of the season opener, recovered from a mid-season mechanical failure to take fifth place. Next came the Tasmanian pair, with the Grandkids beating Granddad Phil to sixth. Much razzing will no doubt ensue in the neighbourhood of Hobart! RIR’s ancient BRM finished its third VRAA season in eighth place (time for an upgrade, Pedro!), while the Team Mitcham “stackpipe” BRM, Max’s BT3 and Marek’s off-song Honda filled out the standings. In GP2.5, the two championship contenders locked out the top step of the podium all season with four wins apiece. In GP1.5, while the Champion Ferrari won four (or half) of the races, the remaining four were divided amongst three other cars. It was good to see Terry’s BRM and Chas’s Cooper on the top step of the podium during the season. And it was certainly a thrill to watch my #28 Lotus take two GP’s and fight for the championship right through the final round. Stewart

And thank you, David, for entering the VRAA, building two lovely cars and entrusting them to our tender mercies. Though the race performances of your cars can't have been very satisfying for you, I hope the entertainment value of our little traveling circus was at least partial compensation.
Cheers,
Stewart

Thank you Stewart for keeping this series going and all the effort from you and the other hosts. Not great results from our 1.5 cars, might be time for some new motors, from dArt. Very pleased with the 2.5 Car as it was built for a 20,000 motor about 8 years ago.So is. Bit heavy and old design. Chris has done a great job with his two cars. Rossco has proven how a well tuned basic cartrix can do very well. Looking forward now to the Tasman Series and then next years VRAA.

Thanks for the kind words, gentlemen. Phil, Rosco's car was far from a basic Cartrix. It actually had a folded metal chassis underneath. He told me it was made by MJK, but the stamping seems to read "DB". On the other hand, my Mercedes retained the Cartrix plastic clamshell chassis/body and that ran pretty well.... Stewart

VRAA 2015 WRAP-UP & THANKSThe VRAA 2015 Championship Season is wrapped. Here are your Champions: Congratulations to Chris Walker on his double championship victory and his repeat of last year’s win – the first time in VRAA history we’ve ever had the same champ two years running. Congratulations also to David Mitcham for his well-deserved win in the Concours d’Elegance. We had some first time race wins from veteran entrants: kudos to Chas Le Breton and Terry Newsome for sticking with it and developing their cars into winners. As for prizes? Well, like last year every entrant will receive a souvenir colour print of their car, like the pictures above. For the winners, I dug into my supply of body shells and chose some from Dave Jones. Chris asked me to donate one of his prizes to someone else, so I added a fourth shell and have sent one to the 3rd place finishers in each racing class. The shells are: 1954 Maserati 250F, 1956 Maserati 250F, 1961 Lotus 21, 1962 Lotus 25. An endeavour like the VRAA is not a one man show. There are lots of folks to thank for their energetic contributions, freely given, to the running of the thing. Without tracks to race on there wouldn’t be much of a series, so my sincere thanks to the eight race hosts (and their teams of drivers and marshals) anchored by my good friends Peter (Mesa Roja) and Marek (the Autodrome). Since I assumed the management of this serie s, I have relied on these two guys to launch and conclude the VRAA season on the highest of notes. Peter was also the man behind the camera for the gallery shots of all the cars that become the souvenir postcards I send to all the entrants in memory of their participation in the event. Most of all, I want to thank the entrants in the VRAA. You guys build the cars, using all your skill and craftsmanship to fashion a tribute to a piece of Grand Prix history, and then you send it away for others… strangers… to race in the hope that it will run faster than everyone else’s entry. What’s more, you pay for that privilege!! There are some stalwarts of the VRAA that have kept this series going for several years with their entries. I won’t embarrass anyone by naming them, but just let me acknowledge that without the strong support of some great guys “down under” in New Zealand, Australia, and Tasmania (it is an independent nation, right?) and my good friends here in Quebec and Ontario Canada, the VRAA would not have survived as long as it has. The future of the VRAA is a subject for another thread coming soon, but for now let me thank everyone involved this season for a job very well done. Old23
