I built this slot car about 5 years ago and I've just realised I didn't post it on this forum
Cliff Allison on his way to fourth place in the 1958 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa.
The completed balsa shell and driver.
BWA slimline chassis brackets and wheels were used in the build.
Painted and decalled as the Cliff Allison car.

Superb, David. Beautifully carved; it really captures the look and spirit of the real car. Did you have a drawing to work from or did you only have photographs?
Best Regards

I don't believe there are any drawings for this car David but maybe Classic Team Lotus have them in their archive.
I would call this slot car an approximation rather than a faithful miniature but I think it's pretty close to correct, it was built in a matter of a week in the spirit of the way we used to build slot cars back in the 1960s.
I found a period photograph which showed an almost perfect side elevation which I scaled to the correct wheelbase but the rest of it was done by eye. The lines of the car are pretty simple so I just looked at a few period pictures from various angles to judge the contours, the body width I judged from the width of the driver's shoulders in the photographs.

Could this be the car I saw on SF a while back?
I do like the way the essence is captured without going overboard with detail...just enough to make it something special.
Beautiful work, beautiful car.
