Hi all, I will need a certain amount of the above for the start line area of my hillclimb, a la Shelsley Walsh. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make split chestnut paling fencing or if anyone makes the stuff to buy?
Cheers, Martin

Hi Martin
How about using cocktail sticks roughed up a bit and something like stripped telephone wire to connect them up? I haven't tried it but it might work.
Best regards
David

David, you've identified the big problem....roughing it up a bit! That's the essence of chestnut fencing, isn't it? It can be found in smaller scales, photo-etched, but in our scales that flatness simply won't do. I tried checking out brooms for suitable bristles. Right colour, wrong shape. Looks like I'll have to do them the hard way. Hand split wood, twisted with fine wire....dammit!
Cheers, Martin

How about splitting the cocktail sticks? They are the right kind of size and are readily available. Andi

Good point, Andi. I will try that later today. Could be I can knock up a wee jig to ensure it all happens away from finger tips! It's mainly going to be in the painting/weathering anyway, isn't it?

Hi Martin, what about some 0.1" x 0.1" evergreen square 'strip'. Once you chamfer the ends, rough scrape the corners (along its length)and put a bend or two in should look reasonable?
