Relatively speaking Martin the fronts in the 70s were miniscule compared to the rears. Generally the fronts were 13" with quite skinny tyres and the rear had big boots on 15" wheels. Here is the best side on view of the one I am doing:

I meant in terms of diameter, Mel. I realise widths were very different, but 13" to 15" isn't that obvious. What's wrong with RS or, God forbid, Pendle? (IE, ex Penelope Pitlane).

Mel is talking about diameter Martin. 13 front and 15 rear. The deception in Mel's photo of his car is that you can't easily see the front wheels as they are black so merge with the tyres. In fact you are reading the inserts only against the rear wheels.
To my knowledge no one makes 15" rears for this era at the width needed. That is why we made them.
Most people wrongly believe that from 1970 everyone had 13" diameter all round which is quite wrong. And why things like the Scaley Lotus looks so wrong! Andi

I didn't notice that the front wheels are black. But I shall see all this on Saturday when we meet. I think Mel wants me to do inserts for the new rears.

Martin, I considered a number of options for this model including RS - too narrow and the PP copies of the Scaley wheels in ally - rears close to 13" and both fronts and rears have enormous bosses which render any depiction of suspension difficult. There are therefore two options for this model; the Slot.It wheels the inserts were originally made for or the Policar ones which have some limitations but have inset to bury suspension components in and they are (or were) available. I have some more on order from Pendles who are out of stock as they have proved so popular that I'll take adds Maurizio and Andi are both gobsmacked. Mrs now poorly so little progress to show right now.

Would Dart wheels be suitable? Just visited the Dart website and it looks like Art has "wide" scale 13" wheels, and "wide" and "ultra wide" scale 15" wheels in stock.

Hi Matt, the 13" I just pictured are RS, direct copies of Al Penroses 13" wheels. The D'Art wheels are Al Penroses. Unfortunately, you know that slow ship that sails past you on it's way to China? Well Mr Art uses the same boat.

The problem with all these wheels is that they have inexplicably been designed without a recess on the inboard side so, as Mel points out, you cannot get the suspension detail to look right. Andi

Not really inexplicable, Andi. Many were originally made as replacements for Scalextric "toys" and the rest were for fat booted sports and saloon cars where suspension wasn't required. It's only fairly recently that scale versions of this era of F1 have become the currency and CNC turning back recesses is a very different kettle of fish from the flat backed or "bossed" back side, which can be done in one sitting, easily and therefore cheaply.

Maybe a gap in the market there? I have used Mitoos M037 on occasion for rears but a nice pair of hubless fronts would be most useful. So,whats the sp on the 312B-is it available yet?

As far as I know it should be, Ted. I thought Mel had received some from John. And my son (who does all the vac-forming) has just delivered screens for it to me as he and the grandchildren are on a wee visit from the frozen North.

Mel has had the four prototype shells and five more kits delivered which I believe are all spoken for. I am working on the next five at the moment.
Ted, I suggest you get in contact with Mel and reserve one of the 'to be completed" kits.
