I dont know why but I have found myself in the frenzy of a build using parts I have had sitting around for a while. The body sits nicely with no binding on the chassis, the chassis rolls smoothly on four wheels, the guide turns freely without interfering with the nose. I have followed the 2015 VRAA rules for the 2.5 class but if changes happen I may be able to take advantage of them. There are a couple of small additions to make to the chassis but all up weight with a motor is 64 grams. So once paint and other details are added I should be above the 65g minimum. I know this is no "Chris Walker" but I am happy so far....not that much cussing while resoldering a joint or remaking of parts. Happy Easter indeed.

John, it looks more than serviceable. In fact, it looks pretty darn fine.

Thank you Stewart. I have got the chassis running today. The rear body mount plate has a support leg. The motor is soldered across the top of the plate(one joint) and hooked in behind a cross bar at the other end. Next I will make some body posts and mount the body then work the tires and inserts, I can loose some tire diameter yet. It is a little agricultural but it moves smoothly and quietly with potential to improve lap times. Regards John

I have made and fitted the inserts and reinforced the body posts, you dont want them coming loose in the middle of a proxy.

Hi John
The Vanwall is coming along very well. I'm impressed with your progress and the surface finish on the body - excellent casting. Whose going to be driving - Moss, Brooks .......?
Best Regards
David

The way I present cars it will probably be "Bross" # 71.

Some colour today....what you might not see is the inevitable piece of windblown grit.

Hello John, Really nice work, and so glad you are putting in the effort to field a car..should be a tad easier now that Old23 has relaxed the clearance to 3/32. No reason it should not do well!!
What pinion are you using??...looks like a 9T....if so, you may want to consider (strongly) switching to a 10T.....particularly with a 24T contrate.
Cheers Chris Walker

Thanks for the kind words, Chris.
I am pleased so far.
I have been reading up on car specs and you are correct in focusing on my final drive ratio...it needs to be taller, longer or higher. A change of pinion and/or crown will take place before the Vanwall flies away.

I have my car packed and ready for the Post office journey to Canada for the start of the VRAA. Now I look at the pictures I see a detail I have missed but....it is just too bad now. I have no idea how it will run compared to others in the field. I think the motor is a little "soft" but it handles well.

It really looks the part, John. Hopefully it will get to Canada in one piece!

Thanks David. I have sent a few packages in that direction and they often get partially squashed so for me the luck of the proxy has begun.

Thanks Andi, I remember your build well. This one is my first proxy entry for a couple of years so it is a shot in the dark. It is also a test bed for some self made components.
