Hello from the Chicago area. Finally getting more computer literate. Am a frustrated photographer in a digital world - not getting enough use of my REAL camera collection that uses real film and chemistry to make photographs not digital images.
Started racing on one of the few American rail tracks in the late 1950's. Got one of the original tinplate Scaley sets and helped build an early slot track in 1960. Raced 1/32 with the Glenwood 1/32 slot club in Lombard, IL in the late 1960's after getting out of the Army. Dropped out of the model car hobby for thirty years while playing with my 1/1 MGB and MGA Coupe and gokart. Wrenched on a lot of cars and bikes. My dad was a master hotrodder.
Got back into slots in the late 1980s. The game seemed to be only 1/24 scale. I was to race in the 1988/89 World Championships (IMCA), but my job made me miss the race days. Got a backmarker trophy in the 1992 IMCA/USA Nats in 1/32 Euro F-1. Spring-steel frames are added to the stamped and brass and wire types of slotcar frames - OH MY. Hosted the 2006 ISRA/USA Nationals on the 2002 ISRA Worlds track. Met Richard Mack at the Worlds this year!
Started a retail slotshop in 1992 and tried to keep at it until I went broke in 2007. Ramcat Raceway/Paradise Raceway/RaceworldMcHenry. I have owned and renovated over a dozen commercial grade tracks. Wiring, woodworking, relay boards, harness design, and timing systems.
Still had inventory and interest to keep racing and collecting. 1/32 Plastic cars: Greatlakes Slot Car Club. Host for proxy Last Open Road on replica Meadowdale and Riverside Raceways. I race 1/24 in IRRA, ISRA (finally entered the 2016 Worlds), MidAmerica Hardbody Club (Model kits on brass rigid frames).
Interested in finding the parts to do more 1/32 scratchbuilding. Hope to get interest in other local club members. It seems to be not marketed in USA forums. I repair many resistor, diode and some transistor controllers...as long as the parts are not surface mounted.
