My name is Stan Smith and I live in Newberg, Oregon USA. I have been slot racing for 56 years, with a little bit of a break for college. I got seriously back into the hobby in the 90's, when I discovered the "132Slots" mailing list. From that venue, I met Stephen Farr-Jones of the "Farrout Slot Racing Club" in Southern California, and have been racing ever since. I had a Strombecker set when I was 13, with my two favorite cars, the D Jaguar and Ferrari Testa Rosa. Raced with the "On The Hill Gang" in SoCal until I moved to Oregon for retirement in 2012. Here in Oregon, I race with the Northwest Association of Slot Car Enthusiasts (NASTE), a great group of people. I enjoy all eras of motor racing, but I'm partial to the mid-to-late 50's and early 60's, when cars looked like cars, and had very few sponsor logos messing up the cars. But there are some wonderful looking cars today as well.
I hope to do more scratch building as I get time in retirement, although with helping to run an Airbnb on our property, available time doesn't seem to be happening as often as I'd like!
I'm inspired by the wonderful work that members here have done/are doing, so I'll keep looking to see what everybody does. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute something here as well.
