My name is Bill and I'm an old slot car racer, builder, collector, and tinkerer currently living in Fairview Oregon. Probably like a lot of you I have enjoyed slot cars since I was a small kid. I started with a Gilbert 1/32 figure eight set for Christmas that came with the '40 Ford coupes, to which one of the '61 Corvettes was added on my birthday. After a year or two I received an Aurora Thunderjet 500 set as another Christmas present. Although the Gilbert set and cars are long gone, I still have some of my original Aurora T-Jet cars.
Since then I have been in and out of the hobby, but have never left completely. In the early '80s I raced with the HO Racers of Oregon (HORO). We were pretty hardcore racers for the time, racing modified T-Jets, modified Magna-Traction cars, and modified Tyco 440s. In addition I found out about a local 1/24 club PASER, that had been racing since the early 1960s. I started racing with PASER in a barn owned by Lee Dundas in Wilsonville. There I was introduced to 1/24 hardbody cars and 1/32 Womps. I still love them both and race them whenever I can!
After another departure from the hobby, I resumed racing in the late '90s with a group called NASTE (Northwest Association of Slot Track Enthusiasts). I have continued racing with NASTE as well as other local clubs including Rapid Raceway for 1/24 cars. I am lucky in that there is so much slot car racing going on here in Oregon. You can literally race every week around here if you have a desire to! I still enjoy racing all the different slot cars, HO, 1/32, and 1/24. I still build a few cars, and have built tracks in all the three scales both section plastic type and routed wood. I currently own an HO MDF routed track as well as an 84 foot three lane routed track for 1/32 and 1/24 cars. We are currently racing 1/32 cars as well as 1/24 BRM and Vintage '60s cars on my track on a monthly basis.
My latest endeavor has been to partner up with one of my good racing buddies and start making urethane tires. With my partner's help we have started to market our tires to racers other than just the local folks. We are trying to provide racers with something a little different from what has been available from other vendors. We take pride in the tires we make and strive to provide a quality product. I must give credit to my partner for the idea, execution, and website. He is definitely the brains of the outfit!
