Has anyone tried this stuff? I'm very impressed by the marker pens and am hopeful that the spray paint is as good. The effect on a small area can of corse be quite different to getting a uniform appearance on a larger area, like a 30s radiator for example....
Peter.

Peter, I know people who have decanted the refills into airbrushes and had good results. It depends what you're prepared to accept as "chrome". It still doesn't beat ally tape, carefully used.

Peter, While the Molotow spray chrome gives a more realistic finish than any other available spray chrome (Krylon,DupliColor etc.) it does not work nearly as well as the "pen". The finish is more silver paint (ish) looking, and it appears that the propellant used can cause crazing issues if used on un primed surfaces, or, if applied in anything but the lightest of coats (it is very thick).
While I have covered some fairly large surfaces (and been happy) with the 4mm pen, the pens can be decanted (or use the refill bottle) and then apply via airbrush.....looks wonderful !!.
There are a few Youtube videos of folks using the "spray"..........and again. while it appears to be better than most competitive sprays, it does not match the "pen" results.

So the Refills can be used through an airbrush with no problem? I'd love to try it but the refills are quite expensive - but worth it if it looks as good as the pen.

My main issue with Molotow chrome was its stability/longetivity/strength.
It cannot be successfully clear coated and on a slotcar that is handled often???

Using an airbrush with the Molotow refills, actually gives a better finish (smoother/more even) than you can achieve with their pens.....as is the case with most anything that is airbrushed. No paint advertised as chrome/Alclad comes close. It is best applied to a non gloss (flat) surface. There are a few videos/tutorials online,....Molotows website, model builders forums etc.,.......google airbrushing Molotow chrome. To be honest, for small detail bits, the pen is hard to beat,......great finish, and convienient..........for larger areas, airbrushing is worth the effort/cost. Cheers Chris Walker

Hi John, I have used Future/Pledge acrylic Floor covering on many detail bits (mirrors, knockoffs, gas caps, etc. ) coated with the Molotow pens, with no negative effects........I know several folks have had issues with various types of spray Lacquer affecting the Molotow. I have waited 4/5 days before applying the future, and so far, absolutely no issues. I would not coat larger slot car surfaces of Molotow with Future......not for the worry of getting a bad finish, but rather the fact that Future is not the best clear for a slot car....it does not hold up well, and, if you use lane stickers, I have seen big strips of Future (and the underlying decals) pulled off the car when the stickers are removed.....unfortunately, I have first hand experience !! Thanks Chris, your comments prompted me to re purchase a couple of pens and try again.
Storage? Caps down?

Hi John, I honestly don't know if there is a preferred method...I have been storing mine for the last couple of years "caps up" with no issues......a quick shake before using, and, Bob's your uncle. Cheers Chris Walker

Cheers Chris Walker I wonder if the approach I use to clear coat decals would work: two coats of brushed on acrylic followed by (after overnight dry) a mist then 1-2 full coats of clear lacquer? I have used this with a very "hot" 2 part clear and it works - the decals are completely protected.
