The hope is that this thread will not last as long as some of my others. The Maserati 8C begins! (In styrene, of course.....).
This car is being modelled as an 8C2800, but could equally be an 8C3000 or 8C2500 (also called a Tipo 26M), one at least of which is now a 2800. The history of these cars is best left alone……. Unlike the R Type, a nice single piece body, the Maserati will be in 3 main pieces, chassis, body and undertrays. Here goes with the chassis section.
The chassis main rails are made from 16g brass. The two sides were soldered together for all shaping and drilling. Some areas are a little oversized for strength. The chassis frame will provide a basis for the 'middle' casting of the car and will include flanges to aid location of the main body and undertray castings.
Three main cross-members will be made and fitted.
Hopefully a little progress each week. A lot more if we have a wet summer.....
Peter.
