Hi all,
After lurking and admiring the work on here for several years I guess I should post and introduce myself:
Peter Grey, Palm Beach, Queensland, Australia.
Born in Invercargill, NZ 71 years ago, I came to Aus in 1972 then, later, spent about 11 years in Hong Kong/China/Philippines from 2003 until 2014 when I returned to be nearer my sons and grandkids. I had raced slot cars as a kid and then again in the late '70s at Annerly commercial track in Brisbane. Then, to combat the extreme evening boredom in China, I decided that building slot cars might be the answer. It was. I built a couple of cars then which were later lost in the various moves around Asia (bummer).
On moving back to the Gold Coast, my son suggested that my grandsons would love to race slot cars so I built up a small 8 x 4 layout with some of the track I brought back with me. And now I'm back into making cars. First off is a remake of the 250F I lost in Asia. When the decals I've ordered arrive, I'll get that finished and then I have a few lined up to follow. I will have a couple of months' recuperation time coming soon which I am planning to fill with scratch building. So, in anticipation of that, I'm in the process of ordering the missing ingredients.
Having grown up in NZ, my main interest is the cars which I saw race in the GP drivers' annual holidays there and in Aus. Great days and great memories.
I have a good stock of Dave Jones body shells from which I'm planning to build the BRM P25 which Ron Flockhart drove in NZ in, I think, 1959 and the P261 driven by Jackie Stewart in '66. Plus I have a George Turner Ferrari 256 which I'm planning to build as Pat Hoare's car (Phil Hill's Monza winner factory-fitted with a 3 litre Testa Rosso V-12). should keep me occupied for a couple of months.
Anyway, I'll post some build photos as I go. Not up to the exceptional standard that is on show on this site, but I'm working on it.
That's it, cheers,
Peter
