Valerie called today with an update.
Chris has been kept been in a medically induced coma since he also suffers from COPD and was having a lot of difficulty breathing. The good news is that he is now conscious and the breathing and feeding tubes were removed. He was sitting up and able to talk to Val for the first time in over a week.
I suspect it will be a long recovery for Chris, but I'm heartened that we've now had some good news.

Very good news indeed - COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is not curable but can be managed. I hope he finds his way into a good cardiac rehab program.

I spoke to Chris on the phone today. He's still weak, but he sounded pretty good all things considered. He still has the feeding tube (I was mistaken about that in an earlier post), but he hopes that will be removed within a day or two.
Chris still isn't allowed to have visitors other than family.
He assured me that once he gets home, he'll have plenty of time to catch up on some of his build projects.
He was very appreciative of your support and well wishes.

Mark
That is good news and I am sure you felt much more reassured having spoken to him yourself.
Getting back to his build projects in the near future will be great therapy for Chris.

I am awfully late to the list of well wishers but that does not indicate any lack of concern or desires for a speedy and complete recovery. Take care and take the time you need to fully recover and return to us as the fine man you are! Howard
