The home stretch is slowly becoming visible. The creation of the lettering on the tower was again a somewhat more complex process. First I drew a lettering in the size I wanted (2cm letter height) analogous to the original lettering. Then I stuck a transparent film over it, on which I traced the lettering with a permanent marker. I then cut out these letters from the foil, painted them and placed them on thicker cardboard to draw around the outlines, then cut this out, colored the edges of the cardboard and glued the letters on. I glued small rubber dots to the back, which I punched out of an old motorcycle hose with the punch pliers, because I wanted to glue the letters to the wall with a little space to create a shadow gap. I glued the drawn lettering on the tower reversibly and marked the position of the letters with a graver.
I removed the lettering again, glued the letters individually and aligned them. And now it's done: The lighting will not be delivered until sometime next week. Therefore there will be another photo at the end of the coming week to show the effect of the lighting. The two cars at the gas station will be replaced by others that I have yet to build, as well as a tow truck and a service vehicle that will be located on the left side of the garage. Maybe a few more spectators will come to the roof. But none of this is in a hurry. It is important that the gas station itself is ready. Best regards, Taffy

At the end of the week, the postman brought the “lighting items” that had been ordered. Since the track lighting is only an add-on and the front area of the track is so low, that it is very difficult to maneuver and pull cables underneath, I have relied on battery-operated LED lights, which, when drawn on wire, can be adapted to different interior spaces . The battery housing can then be made inconspicuous by painting it as a “power box”. The decentralized power supply naturally requires a large number of batteries if you want to illuminate several buildings with it. But there are always enough batteries from keyboards, mice, wall clocks and other battery-driven items, who can get a second life here. This gives a pretty nice effect for the garage. The "power box" is next to the entrance door. I pulled some of the lights out under the canopy so that this area wasn't in the dark either. I installed these lights not only in the garage, but also in the two storage sheds and the farmhouse. So this is what the Jersey Circuit looks like at night: Once in a swing, I completed a little scene next to the track: The track marshals are provided on the Jersey Circuit by the Royal Automobile Club, which has distributed small road keeper's huts over the entire road network of the island. The service vehicle is a repainted cargo-Vespa. A note on careful driving should of course not be missing. That’s it for the first time from the Jersey Circuit. The rolling stock is calling again on the workbench... Best regards, Taffy

My last update here was quite a while ago. However, a lot has happened on the Jersey circuit since the gas station was built. First I finished a bigger project, I built a cargo ship for the harbor out of cardboard from an enlarged kit from Scalescenes.

Then, to complete the loading scene in the harbor, I started to build a Bedford truck. It is a resin kit from the Czech manufacturer MMK, not to be confused with the French slot car manufacturer of the same name
The truck got a scratchbuilt flatbed that I built out of coffee stir sticks and plastic sheet
It was a hard work to build the truck, but I think it is a good addition to the scenery.

Next things that I have built was a streamlined racing transporter…. ...and a bus for the people who want to see the races! Here it is passing the German Underground Hospital Museum: For a more detailed history and more pictures, too, feel free to use this LINK
To be continued....
Best regards,

Dear David, dear Bob,
thank you for your kind comments. Indeed, it was a very satisfying job to build the "Mary Allen" and the Bedford truck and to create the "unloading-scene". Well, building the Bedford was kind of a challenge, but I am pleased with the result, too.
Building the scenery costs much more time than racig on the track, but it is a thing that you can do, when you are alone, too. For slotracing, you always need the other guys, and it is not easy to create a timetable for our racing series.
Best regards, Taffy

Great to see Taffy, I am too young to find time or space for these type of absolutely gorgeous projects. I would say I am jealous but one should not wish one's life away. I have not always felt so, but at present it occurs to me that I am happy and don't want things to change. Thank you for sharing, Andi

Andi, I have planned this track as a long term project, and when I started it, I was ten years younger You´re absolutely right, one should not wish one's life away. I am glad to have started this project, even if I could have done many other things in the time, that I have already spent in my attic. And I hope to give you pleasure by showing you new pictures from my track for another couple of years... Best regards, Taffy

One plan for this year is to hold a night race at the Jersey Circuit for sports cars and GT's from the 50's and 60's. But in order to do that, the track lighting needs to be upgraded. In the next few weeks I will use some of the lamps I have made street lamps from and still have some in stock, install them at relevant places and connect them to the already existing street lighting lines. Also the houses of the city St.Helier receive an evening interior lighting, with old bulbs and beautiful, warm light. In this context, I also had the idea of enhancing the scene with the crashed Ferrari 156 and adding flickering LEDs to the smoke rising from the car. So I ordered some, in a pack of three red/orange/yellow. Red and yellow are already installed, the orange one I had over. And as it is sometimes, new ideas arise. Why not expand the somewhat neglected camping scene? With more figures, a campfire, another tent and a car with trailer? No sooner said than done. A first rehearsal of the figures grouped around the yet to be built campfire: The whole thing as a positioning test on site to determine the hole to be drilled for the campfire wiring: Then the camp fire had to be built, here a functional test of the not yet fully detailed fire: Next I built the small Standard 8 from Penelope Pitlane's former range as a "static kit", plus a trailer from George Turner Models. I have shown the tarp of the trailer slightly opened, some firewood peeking out. A chopping block is already there, the axe is a bit too small, more like a small hatchet, let's see, maybe I'll find something bigger…
I have already treated the tent with color and attached "guy ropes" made of wire. Except for the figures, which I still have to change in the postures and paint, the scenery is now ready and I'm already excited to see the campfire flicker on site.

Furthermore, I have finally set up the tracksigns prepared years ago, as they were similar to the original race track. To be continued...
